@Dellis - It's just Matt's build with the Showa forks - unfortunately they have longer sliders. That means less travel for the ride height.
I have done 7500 miles now on our local roads (read - not good) and it really hasn't been a problem, so they must be really good forks.
I changed the rear to Nitron R3's and that was a great improvement - real kidney savers.
More travel probably would be better on the front but this really isn't bad.
Cheers
Hi Rob,

They just seemed to have very little travel but as long as they do the job that’s really what counts. Nice looking bike by the way, tanks and panels fit with the look of the bike really well. It was worth all the aggro getting them to the other side of the world, they have just sat in my workshop loft so I’m glad they’re being put to such good use.

By the way I’ve always used exhaust rubber mounts on the tank, less faff than the stack of rubber washers but I take your point.

Dave

Out of curiosity, how much travel do they allow for?

I regularly get > 3.5" of travel on my forks with spirited riding, as I rode with a zip tie on the stanchion for a while.

I have a Nitron on my Duc, great unit.

Sorry for the tardy reply - I measured then got waylaid.

I also used a zip tie for over a month to confirm if the I had room for the steering damper clamp.
It's never used more than 67mm and, with clamp I have 74mm (other stanchion) The one you see is 82mm.
It's firm but completely acceptable.
Cheers

That’s my 1972 Combat Commando Interstate. I snagged last month. I’m already working on it and buying tools and parts. Yup, just like I remembered. By the way, just joined up here. Cool site and great resource! Thanks!

Wow that’s clean bongo, looks like it’s be owned by a good and mindful owner too. Enjoy.
Bongo? Wasn't he an odd 'tashed 70's kids magician? Or was it a fruit drink, I can't recall :D

Yeah, it's pretty clean and original to be honest. Nice patina. Spent it's life in the US and judging by the condition of it's 48 year age, hasn't seen as much rain as it would've been subjected to over here. Of course, the pictures make it look much sweeter than in real life close-up.

Took it on its maiden outing today, and had to return home sooner than I'd have liked due to some 'issues', which I'll seek some advice on in another thread, but I'm over the moon.
