What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?

My 76 Goldwing, still on 4 carbs, I have to do my clutch plates and upgraded springs, carbs are good, but they take some work, they don't like to sit. I am painting it in candy red soon and doing the new spokes and re anodized rims. View attachment 122083
I do really like those plain Jane wings
They seemed really big when they came out, they seem to have shrunk over the years

Pretty much tired of this Mother Nature crap …

I live near the beach front, well about 1km but am up high, my home town of Brisbane is built on wet lands/flood plains and low laying areas of Moreton bay and rivers, we have had our share of major floods in the time Brisbane has been settled, but people still want to live on or near the water and new estates are being built in areas that are flood prone thinking drainage systems will fix it, not and when it does flood the land developers have long gone and now insurance companies are charging insane high prices for flood cover that people can no longer afford to pay, I am glad my dad built on high ground looking over the bay.
Hope the water don't go higher for you Richard as high/flood water can do a lot of damage, and mother nature can be cruel when she is angry.

RT, when did that damage happen in your garage? Was it hurricane Sandy? It appears the homes across the street are newer and rebuilt. Probably with the utilities on the second floor. A buddy in Ventnor got hit with 6' of water on the ground floor.

Yes , that was Sandy . The detached garage is still at the same elevation but I lifted the house after Sandy .

Recently I posted a Thread : " Stripped spark plug hole . " . On good advice , off came the head and received my Time-sert kit . Kept going ( might as well.. ) , pulled barrels to find 2 scored up pistons with blowby evidence . Both pistons had rings that had migrated on their own so that the compression rings were very out of their correct placements . Why would that happen ? (Cam looks fine .) .
Today pulled the MK 111 primary ( looks good ) , to access the bottom end for removal . Got all 5 bolts out supporting it , until the 6 th upper subframe mount one . It won't come out from the weight on it .. ideas ?

Do you mean the gaps were not where you placed them? That's normal as the rings can rotate.
"It is clear that whatever position the rings are in during the engine build will not be maintained during service."

The right piston ( T.S. ) compression rings were both with their gaps to the front face .
The left side piston rings had moved . The lower comp. ring gap to the left side .
Both pistons are scrap now , with wear to both front and rear faces on both sides and blowby evidence . Bores are visually good on both sides of the barrels ..
I've ordered in 2 new .040 over pistons ( replacements ) from Andover , here soon , to replace them , I'll get a barrel honing done at a local shop before fitting .

The cam lobes look fine , I'm trying to get the bottom end out of the bike now , held back by the top cradle bolt which is taking all the weight of it . I'll find some wood tomorrow , all on the street work .
And here i complain because I don't have room for a lift! At least I have a lockable garage!
