What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?

What about duct taping the plastic cap? Or coating threads with a little rubber cement.
"If it moves and shouldn't, DUCT TAPE. If it doesn't move and should: WD-40"

Do you mean rotate it? Might be possible. Not sure there's enough before fuel level gets to the gasket. Have you done this successfully?
Yes that’s what I mean.

Have I done it…? That would mean running a single carb… so of course I haven’t 🤣

I have a (slow ;)) mate who ran that set up for a while and that’s what he did.

I don’t recall any leaky gasket issues.

It’s easy to try… and easy to reverse.

Either way, that BLACK cap should be tight and should not come loose. The uncontrolled / unexpected WOT can be VERY dangerous …

I will try it. I guess they survive sidestand angles without issue and it should be less than that. I'll go the other way to sidestand lean. Thanks.

I love my torquey single carb, especially each time I worked on my Honda's 4 x Keihins... (Actually, a pain to set up, not difficult, just repetitive attention to detail, thankfully no trouble since). In truth, I'm not averse to trying a couple of premiers, but each time I have tried to prove the single runs out of steam above 6,000 revs, it makes me grin, and I think "why bother"?

Only pulling yer leg dude.

Don't fix what’s not broke.

If you like it, you like it, so what’s not to like 😵‍💫 !!

Beautiful Fall day for a ride.

Please for the love of god don't start another single verses twin carb debate 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 and to Mart have you thought about running twin carbs on your cb750 ?
A mate of mine used to run a pair of VMs on his and he loved the setup 🤐

The Commando came with the single. I like it and it works. The Honda came with four Keihins. They were an interesting challenge. Now, they also work. So, not planning to change. The Commando is quicker than the Honda, so maybe I should go to a single carb...👍

I ran my fj1200 on a single carb for a while I just used the carb from the bank with the throttle spool
I did it mainly because of its poor fuel consumption it went from something like 33mpg to around 38 I was expecting a lot better mpg I can't quite remember now
It accelerated pretty much the same but had a hole in the power in the mid range
I had to shim the needle and fit a larger main jet

Been thinking of running my Velocette MSS single cylinder on twin carbs...does that count in this debate?😝

You should fit a single SU to the Honda.

Or… 4 x Wal Phillip’s fuel injectors…

Or…

Finished the refurb of my side stand after a mate of mine kindly Mig welded it to fill in the wear plus some extra for good measure. The bike no longer reaches for the ground 🤣

Next job is to repaint the lower frame cross member which has taken quite a battering (the price of actually riding this wonderful bike) after which I intend to protect it with 3M Helicopter tape.

A very popular mod on the older 4 cylinder Honda Gold Wings is a single downdraft carb...
