What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?

Yes, I plan on bright lights when I start on the electrics. Is there a thread on that? Bright lights won’t help when you get caught in the middle of an intersection going on the green in broad daylight. I now wait until I can see all cars are fully stopped.
Yes there are a few threads on the LED topic.

Admorelighting.com have a range of supplementary led lighting, flashing, sequential etc. Work well on my FJR, expensive but what price safety?

Roadster battery sidecover doesnt open easily with standard mounts and an interstate tank, have fitted a Quik-latch mini for the front fixing instead.

On my mk3 I installed a new final drive chain - installed new rear brake pads and vacuum bled the system- inspected front pads (good) - replaced the gear change oil seal on the outer primary cover (tried to remove/replace seal with cover installed but failed and had to remove) refilled with 7 oz 20-50w. I think I found out why my speedometer failed to work since installing. The crimped on ferrule on the speedo drive end failed. I crimped it back on and reinstalled (we’ll see if it worked on my next ride). Got me some shit done I did!

Steve,
I checked in with Admorelighting.com and they offer a converter to use their lights with positive ground. They offer some nice stuff!

Jamesp, that is messed up man. Yikes! Good on ya for rebuilding. Riding in traffic is such a nightmare. I wonder if you guys have modified your lights to give that extra blinking before they go solid. Usually on the brake lights. The blinking grabs attention of drivers distracted on their phones better than a solid brake light. I'm thinking of doing this on my Commando and wonder what options are out there and what you guys might have done.
It still has a lot of value, 45 years later:

There is a lot of good info in there.

My top takeaway was "the median crash speed was 21.5 mph, and the one-in-a-thousand crash speed is approximately 86 mph-". So I need to get through that dangerous 20-30mph range, and accelerate to 86mph as quickly as possible to stay safe?

Sounds reasonable to me.

Loaded her into the box trailer in readiness for the trip to the Three State Mountain Ride tomorrow. Patted myself on the back when my theory wondering if pushing the bike out of the shed, where the floor is only about eight inches lower than the trailer floor, along the ramps and in, actually did work.
Long story but easier for me and more convenient than riding in. Think the FJR is too heavy for this method though.
Does mean having to drag bike about face in the shed so she’s facing outward !

Cursed Lucas electrics!!!! My Mk III started right up, then stopped. No indicator lights. Changed blown fuse and blew another fuse. Put in a 30 amp fuse and watched for the smoke. A little puff from under the tank. Removed the tank and a white wire was burnt off and grounded to head steady. Fixed it and rode the bike about 15 miles, no problem. Washed the bike and blew a fuse. This will wait for another day that I am the mood to deal with it!

Replaced. The fork seals n gaiters, whilst I had the front stripped I fitted braided brake hoses, the brake feels so much better now, no sponginess.
I also discovered the reason for my recent blown fuse. Both live wires to the master switch were parting company with their spade connectors. So I soldered in extra wire to increase their length
test ride today

Soldered in new LH. phenolic switch gear board connections as they were 50 or so yrs . old and the headlight was flickering . Blasted about town with a reliable LED headlight pointed somewhat more downwards to not piss off oncoming drivers . Enjoy .

Torontonian,
I have a different opinion on pointing the light down. The light is much more visible pointing as you would with a standard bulb. I run mine with the high beam on all the time but I am in a rural area and if it bothers someone at least I know they see me. I’m am talking about a daylight situation.Just my 2 cents.

nice run out today, bike is just about there now, i has some old 1.5" peashooters (with a reducer) on that i had lying around in the garage but could not get them to seal. i decided to see if i could fit the black caps that came with the bike to the peashooter silencer mounts. they seem to fit ok.
bike felt pretty good with them on as well

O.K. I'll grab the shell and move it back up a tad .

Mounting black caps on peashooter brackets sets them further forward (as seen in your picture with the front of the silencer practically in line with the crankcase screw) when compared with the black cap bracket position, below:

...which pulls the exhaust system from its normal position as the rear of the silencer would normally be sitting higher when compared to the end of the mudguard (see brochure, below) but probably ok if the exhaust lockrings are loosened so the pipes can realign on the spherical seatings.

Are the black caps 'original' or copies??
