What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?

Because the weather is shit here now, and winter is looming. I installed the Holley Retrobright I have had languishing on the work bench for a while now. Once the weather clears a bit and I can get outside for some photos of it illuminating I will do a little write up on it.

Oh man! So timely this discussion thread is. I have a rig that I was planning on putting on my Commando moped with a single Amal. Check it out! Baz is this similar to what you had rigged up for your ride? I still wonder how the bike would perform with this simple setup. I ride it like a moped so sucking from a straw is probably just fine for me Kiwiman:)
Twin carbs really aren’t a problem once set up.

But yes, if you generally ride at a ‘relaxed’ pace then there’s nowt wrong with a single carb.

Is it new or old? Is it a premier? Don’t matter how few carbs you’ve got, a blocked pilot will still be a PiTA …

Did your stacks clash ?..I spun the ends down a few mm to get my uni filters to fit
39s.

If you zoom in on the pic you can just about make out that the inners of each stack have been linished away to get clearance and I filed the half circles in each for Allen key access.

Thats sweet mate...makes for easy access for ya 👍

Mocked up more parts today, seeing how things fit. Front end went together well, new stanchions, cNw triple trees and slider extensions, Landsdowne inners, stainless axle. Other parts waiting in the wings. Going to concentrate on new tires next so I can fit wheels and brakes soon. Trying not to tighten things down until I know they fit as I sometimes have to go back and redo something.

Jamesp, that is messed up man. Yikes! Good on ya for rebuilding. Riding in traffic is such a nightmare. I wonder if you guys have modified your lights to give that extra blinking before they go solid. Usually on the brake lights. The blinking grabs attention of drivers distracted on their phones better than a solid brake light. I'm thinking of doing this on my Commando and wonder what options are out there and what you guys might have done.

LEDs front and rear for max daytime visibility is now a standard mod for me.

Research pays off, some are better than others. A LED board is best for the rear.

Flashing stop lamp is a good idea, but I’ve not done that yet.

Yes, I plan on bright lights when I start on the electrics. Is there a thread on that? Bright lights won’t help when you get caught in the middle of an intersection going on the green in broad daylight. I now wait until I can see all cars are fully stopped.

To each his own sir.

Leaving loose certainly applies to some things, like the front end.

But generally speaking I like to tighten as I go. It greatly reduces the risk of forgetting to do so later !
Yes, I worry about that and try not to move on to a new section until everything is tight.

This lighting topic would make for a good thread.
