What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?

One thing I've noticed with this, having removed the float bowls etc. to check the needles are moving in unison, is that with the locking nuts backed right off in the trunions, one of the needles is fractionally further out than the other - I guess one of the lift cables could be slightly longer? (both needle clips are on the same groove)
They should be exactly equal

That's good
It saves micro adjusting the throttle cable adjusters as the slides lift off of the throttle stop screws
I feel this is where the main advantage of the gantry is
Surprised you haven't fitted one on yours mate?

I've been through the mill with carb setups believe me
I now have a mikuni TM 40 fitted
These are a "set" and forget.😉

They are actually more economical than two 34 mm MK II's....just :)
Nothing wrong with the SU's or for that matter the TM40 either...im just being a cock 🤣
I used to run a single 32 MK1 Amal on a MK2a I owned many years ago
I chopped the back off a Norton atlas manifold and re welded it to the commando angle
It was very economical which was what I needed at that time

Things made a bit more sense once I'd spotted that one of the needles was bent

Luckily I had a box of new spares :)
Those gantry set up's are
sweet...synchronize is a word you will no longer need to or use...👍

I dont mean to sound like a cock again but when I think of a 32mm on a 2into1 manifold...my lips pucker like I'm sucking on a straw thats blocked 🤣🤣🤣....on another note
A mate of mine ran slightly smaller carbs on his T160 for a while and it actually ran as smooth as silk especially down low and normal type highway speeds etc...

Oh man! So timely this discussion thread is. I have a rig that I was planning on putting on my Commando moped with a single Amal. Check it out! Baz is this similar to what you had rigged up for your ride? I still wonder how the bike would perform with this simple setup. I ride it like a moped so sucking from a straw is probably just fine for me Kiwiman:)

Well, I did take the bike out for a ride on Saturday but buggered my knee kicking it over. I think I hyperextended my knee when I was kicking it over. Crappy technique this time. Still, I did get out for a short ride. Excellent weather we're having now in Michigan.

75 Mk III. Warmed up the bike with a short 10 mile ride. Back home and drained the oil. Replaced the oil lines and filter. Filled up with Valvoline vr1 20/50. All good and no leaks. It seems to run smoother but I consider that the placebo effect.
Cheers from sunny SC

I can't understand why so many have problems with tuning twin Amal carbs, if your ignition is set right and valve the carbs are pretty easy, well for me anyway, I don't use special tools or devices all tuned by ear and feel from the exhaust pressure from my mufflers I just replaced the PWK carbs I was running for 12 years and gone back to my old Amals after a complete pull down, clean and poke, a quick tune and the Norton is running great with no miss fire when opening the throttle right open just got to relearn the the first kick technique for the day when it's cold lol.

Yep very similar only I had a pancake Amal air filter on mine I had dent the top of the filter to clear the frame gusset plate
The bike should run great on that single amal
But don't expect it to do much over 90
