What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?

The chrome tanked 750 with the tapped headlight appears to me to have some sort of ram air feed inlet grill above the F.R.E rocker cover....or am I not seeing straight.. interesting?
It was a cool bike the tank was alloy
It has a dunstall barrel and kiehin carbs

After a long journey from my being hit by a red light runner, my beautiful helper and I reunited the power unit with the frame today. One day this Norton will run, ride, and look better than ever. Thank you to Matt at cNw, Richard at Wasco Frame, and Greg Marsch for your help.

The awards are from Pontiacs I have restored and/or raced. A 1971 Trans Am show and race car, sadly sold, a 1967 Firebird 400 4-speed restored stock and a 1965 GTO restomod. Cars and motorcyles my hobby since I was 14, a long time ago.

It does the job, much larger than stock with a Busa 6 pot caliper courtesy of Madass. Also a 13mm AN master cylinder.

The Trident brake is as woeful as a stock Commando, hindered by any equally bad rear caliper setup, at least the Interstate also has a great rear drum brake.
Hi Flatspot, wondered if you were able to try out the brake after fitting the AN master only and if you thought there was an improvement afterwards. I’m seriously considering that upgrade, stock set up is abysmal. Thanks
 
It is now officially great riding weather! Went on a 56 mi. ride today in sunny 70F weather. The bike ran real nice with zero problems. Nothing eventful happened but I had a great time just riding. While leaving a friends house today, instead of pushing the little green magic button and in honor of Norlucks 850 Kick Starting Bastard, I decided to kickstart my bike. Success! Nice to know that I can do it if ever my little green magic button fails me.

I rebuilt the stock front caliper along with new hose and rather than rebuild the stock master cylinder I fitted the smaller AN version after reading on here about its benefits.

Being used to double discs and single finger braking from my jap bikes I was scared sh#t less with the lack of stop from my Norton. Adding the Madass adaptor, caliper and disc has given me less to worry about - it’s still not great but at least I don’t need to book in advance my desire to stop.

The Trident is equally as bad, but at least there are ‘simple’ double disc options to help.
 
With the increased stack height, it may be necessary to readjust the diaphragm spring compressor to refit the circlip in which case either the 3mm or 4mm plate should fit.

Yes. By removing, and then re-installing, and with another turn or two, the circlip went in easily (with the 3mm plate) 👍

It's possible the operating lever inside the gearbox outer cover may have dropped out of position.

I'm sure this is where my 'diaphragm isn't moving' issue lies.

I've replaced the cable with a Venhill featherlight, and after adjusting as usual...

It seems about the right amount of free play in the lever, however there is hardly any travel...

..and the diaphragm remains solid. No visible movement. The operating lever is in this position. Is that correct?

Not sure what you mean by dead page ..but Labs photo explains it all as I thought mine did....pull the cable out of the bar adjuster and diaphragm adjuster and get ya fingers in there to reposition the lever...then she be sweet...to readjust the clutch n cable 👍
 
Oh my word. That's incredible.

I couldn't see any difference in the the two pics until I looked hard. I was trying to push the lever in towards the gearbox, when I should have loosened the adjuster (at both ends) and pulled the lever forward.

Makes sense to me now, and happy to report that I now have a wonderfully light clutch action 👍

How could anyone run a Norton without this wonderful forum?

Yeah, when I first clicked on it it took me to an 'OOPS!' message.
