Seems like I have read a post here on the forum, or possibly a response to one of my own posts, that all of the original Hi-Rider tanks were fiberglass. As I peruse Ebay regularly for Norton parts, I see there is currently a steel Hi-Rider tank listed. It obviously looks like a Hi-Rider tank and is steel so can someone verify if some of the original Hi-Rider tanks were, in fact, steel? If I would have been interested in keeping my bike a Hi-Rider I would want a steel tank rather than my original fiberglass tank. I believe there are aftermarket Indian produced steel Hi-Rider tanks.

No, as fibreglass fuel tanks became illegal to fit to new builds in the UK from July 1973 so later tanks were steel including Hi-Rider.
The Hi-Rider was probably the last Commando model fitted with a fibreglass tank.

Steel Hi-Rider tank?

Steel Hi-Rider tank?

so , a reproduction could be hinged front or back , ? . Somebodys even doing polished aluminuim ones , Which'd lloook good with matching sidecovers . As it looks like a BSA moto cross tank .

My '74 850 Hirider has steel tank...AFAIK original.

You must have strong intestinal fortitude...keeping yours in HiRider trim. I couldn't do it....
