And again, this thread's been quiet for a while, so here are some more Commandos, plus a monoshock.

Excellent history photo. thanx, ken.

This was very satisfying to build, my next Commando comes out in 4 months.

Where did you get that braided covered clutch cable?

Now that I scanned some older pictures:

As she was when I bought her in -94, just arrived from Chicago to France (with a side-car lug welded to the frame, twisted swing arm & all); first vacation through the center of France...Only the headers broke!

Hate to hear of crashes- glad you and bike will recovery to ease again,
But where did you get the invisible front brake?
Will you paint green again to flick the flying finger of fate at your future?

Hobot: this was a French product in the late 70' : an inboard double discs taking a kind of lever action on the fork legs ... In between an aircraft brake and a clutch. Very small discs and same size pads, very progressive . Alas made of iron and exploded during the accident. Luchier was the name. I found a replacement but only a single disc so maybe too small... CNW brembo is my current choice and YES more green on the bike!!! Bad luck but still the color of hope!

Philippe, thanks for showing how little I know what possible in Commando adaptations. I expanded photo over a dozen times yet still see only the hoses going behind slider but no hint of brake itself. Suck big time to loss some life and items no fault of your own but to be outside bedroom on motorcycles.
I'm giving myself one more go around on recovering two Combats and one SV650 after more show stoppers and injuries than can remember or list any more.

I got into cycle's finding a Combat while lawn mower shopping in '99. But I've only had about 9 seasons out of 40 of riding d/t too many events out of my control and a bunch more half my fualt saving self by stoppies going slow or sliding into ditch instead of under a truck in face on one lane bridge over ravine. If not for my neck work to re-grow it before a few horrible impacts I'd be dead or too brain injured or crippled to even have online motorcycle activity.
My reality check that is all the new reports of others getting struck and killed by animals or traffic here. I reflect on my current health and life style ease and all the things I've gotten to do in life and travel before and during each ride to rationalize I've had it fairly good and can die w/o missing out on much or leaving dependents w/o some resources to carry on w/o me.

He regards life as a war -- an undeclared war against fate, the fate that hunts men down. "... One can never know when, where, or how fate will strike. Yet sooner or later it does...." Blind random events without a perceptable cause. FATE.

Still can't see the brake.
I've had one green M/C, loved it. It apparently didn't care for me.

If I ever get a 2nd commando I'm getting a drum brake. Think they look better

C-bat that bike really looks sweet. I agree about the drum brake being nicer looking and they can't stop the bike any worse than the disc version, right.

Did you put a drum brake on your Combat?

When I bought my bike new in 72 here in Canada there were some options. A stock 750 9:1 compression with drum brake was $1795.00 and the Combat with 10:1 compression, 932 intakes and carbs and the disc brake was $1995.00. This was CND dollars. The disc brakes were a big step in the right direction at the time although slight modifications have improved the original design as we all know.

I didn't put on the drum brake - it was like that when I purchased it several years ago. The bike had been set-up for Vintage Racing about ten years ago - but never raced (So, I have been told). You are the 2nd person that has asked me that. Did all '72 Combats come with disc brakes???
