Pictures of your Norton 961

Hi Stephen , Nice pics and to see you are getting use out of your new gas tank . !
Thanks Tony. The tank definitely changes the look of the bike significantly, but more than anything adds a little more to authenticity I think, especially being so obviously hand crafted.

Several people have commented on the tank. It definitely gets even more attention with it fitted - I’ve gotta get better at ending conversations and getting on with the riding bit.

I still get minor leaking if I top the tank off. I’ll keep fettling with the cap - going to try increasing and then decreasing the vent size for comparison. As soon as I’ve used a couple of litres it stops, so I still think it’s wash. No big deal.

Quick 150Km blast around the hinterland this morning, paying scant regard to the road rules. I’m pretty sure that it’s compulsory to grow up and act yer age, at some stage!! No sign yet.

Interesting contrast of styles. The Duke 890R only has 300k’s on it but promises to be a bit of a missile, is super light and flickable - a proper scalpel through the bends. Struggle with the styling a bit though, but hey - it’s a KTM! Accessorising the ugly out of it is how they make their money right.

With this bike he doesn’t have any of the extra tech from the power parts catalogue. If he wants the ‘tech pack’ and ‘track pack’ he needs to shell out another A$1200 on the first service! Other Kato models include the extra tech and then take it away, if you don’t shell out at the first service. Not sure which approach I like less.

Out - fat boy breakfast - back! Home in time for tea and medals.

S’wot Sunday morning is for!

Nice shots - thanks.
You bastards definitely have better roads than we do in CQ!!
That KTM sure is fugly! There's normally one in every trio.

Sure do Rob - there’s no doubting that this is a fantastic area for biking. The Sunshine Coast hinterland and surrounds has an abundance of awesome roads and destinations - throw in a few top bikers haunts and it’s never dull. We’ve always got a spare room if ya wanna travel over and try em out!

I’m guessing you’ve got lots of straight lines out there in the GFA🤣!

Have you driven a new one , or planning to ? The primary may finally be quiet enough .
No I haven’t ridden one Tony, and no I don’t have any plans to do so.

I tried to test ride one a couple of times and failed. I was very keen on buying one too, but I‘m basically over that now, for reasons I have already explained.

Just have to chalk it up as ‘been there, done that’ and hope they come up with something tempting soon.

200km (round trip) ‘blat‘ into the big smoke today for the Norton‘s annual service. Hot, busy, road works as far as the eye can see, lots of tin boxes (with one person in each) - you know, the usual!! She didn’t miss a beat, less a reluctance to tick over a couple times in heavy traffic. No biggie!

Service done, fluids, filters, new plugs - no problems. Totally unremarkable until I got the invoice! By some inexplicable transmogrification, my Norton Commando had magically mutated into a Norton Atlas!! Don’t really know how I feel about that! Looking on the bright side though, it may increase the bike’s resale value! 👀

Rained day and night for five weeks, saw a window on the weather forecast and decide to go for it before I go stir crazy. Off to Glasson Dock just a thirty mile ride because I still didn't trust the Met office report , a bit misty but a lovely barmy 10 degrees so no gritters out today. WRONG . YOU. IDIOT. 😖😖 What is wrong with these councils , are they totally stupid for Gods sake not a sign of frost anywhere. Ahh well I licked my finger and touched the fork legs and sure enough SALT 🤪. Got home and after letting the new girl cool down spent the next few hours washing all the salt off , well I hope I got it all. The main thing is I got out for a ride and put a few more miles on Black Bess and restored some of my sanity at the same time.
Hello Peebee , We still want to hear your New vs old 961 comparo !

Never (ever) brag to your riding mate about how well your Norton’s running and how it’s well worth a A$200 labour bill each year to get a qualified mechanic to give it a ‘once over’!

Preached I wisely on its first run out today since the service, when we stopped for fat-boy breakfast (after about 80km) and he proceeded to point out that I had an oil leak to the right side of the bike! DOH!!

Sure enough, I had a light smattering of oil as far back as the hugger (little or none on the rear tyre). At first appearing to emanate from the RH spark plug recess, a better look revealed it was likely from the front right of the rocker gasket! Service coincidental (mechanic did’nt touch the rocker cover).

Got home no problem. Checked and ‘lo and behold‘ the front RH (2x) rocker cover bolts took about 1/8 of a turn to nip up. I’ll test ride again shortly but suspect I’ll still need a new gasket!

Of course my mate took pictures, claimed a breakdown and sent a message to our entire group:rolleyes:! To be expected of course - I’d have done exactly the same!! I’ve said it before………………. you really need to be an enthusiast to own a Norton 961!! 🤣
