Sneak peek of the new engine build. Cerakoted the castings black. I'm going to do the same with the oil pump too.

Yes. Out on his CCM as it's lighter than the Norton. The vibrations cause his right hand to stiffen up, which is a little concerning for him, but can still do short journeys. He was going to Northampton meet on a bike but after yesterday decided he will go in a car.
 
Excluding the engine removal, complete strip down and rebuild, the cerakote process took me around 12hrs. Its a ceramic paint, heat resistant etc....used a lot on guns. Had to replace many engine bearings that couldn't be safely removed. Then lots of heating up of the cases again in the wife's new oven to get the bearings back in. Also found out my early billet balance shaft was incorrectly spaced, so it was a worth while strip down anyhow. The polished cases were re-polished by Harry at Briteworx. No, no intention of blacking in the lettering tbh.
Also made up some retro ht leads...which in particularly proud of.

I’ve been using Cerakote for years on car parts and exhaust with excellent results. You’ll be very happy with it. Looks great.

Cheers! Only down side seems to be that it's so thin that to the touch it's as rough as it was when it came out from shot blasting.....run a microfiber cloth over it and it's covered in fluff 🤦🏻‍♂️
 
I'm wandering if thats more user error than product error....being my first time using the stuff. I used my mate facility to carry out the coating, as he has the blasting cabinet and large oven required.

What are you using for shot blast? Sand, shot peen, walnut shells, soda?
Depending on the materials I’m coating I use different blasting media.

I much prefer Cerakote over powder coating.

Try a finer grit of media next time. I generally use the grit that I’m trying to duplicate or restore.
So if I’m finishing something that is cast aluminum, and I want to keep that textured cast look. I’ll use a course shot peen or black beauty media.

If I’m doing something that’s smooth such as billet aluminum, die cast aluminum, a quality casted aluminum or steel that’s getting Cerakote or powder coated, I’ll use a silica sand.

If it’s getting polished or anodized, I’ll use walnut shells or baking soda.
