Ok, one more sneak peek...
Stole Brummy Nortons idea for the ball bearing to block up the vent hole on the starter motor, over the old smudge of rtv. Also stainless rose jointed the shifter rod.

Try a finer grit of media next time. I generally use the grit that I’m trying to duplicate or restore.
So if I’m finishing something that is cast aluminum, and I want to keep that textured cast look. I’ll use a course shot peen or black beauty media.

If I’m doing something that’s smooth such as billet aluminum, die cast aluminum, a quality casted aluminum or steel that’s getting Cerakote or powder coated, I’ll use a silica sand.

If it’s getting polished or anodized, I’ll use walnut shells or baking soda.

My advice is to do the oil pump and the starter in grainy powder coating, Like on Harley and Triumph.

What diameter ball do you need to do this and how much press does it require to get in ? On a Harley Sportster this hole points down so like a vent/drain . I like those rose joints ! Do you mind sharing the specs for us to do this ?

Sorry, everything was from my own spares tins, ice cream tubs and boxes, so no links. I can measure the ball bearing though, and the rose joints were just m6 female rose joints. I struck lucky with the length, as they're spot on....but all you need to really do is measure what's currently fitted.

The ball bearing knocked in without too much sweating, with a decent drift and hammer. It was a brand new starter motor, that I ordered in from USA for stock.....so I was a little nervous of cocking it up.

Wonder if anyone has ever painted in the engine casing logo in gold? Don’t suppose there’s any historical precedence.

Dunno, never saw such on any Norton.
But not sure if the gold would contrast well right against the polish alloy cover.
I think it would be nice if the gold logo had a thin black outline around for contrast.
Someone should give it a try.
