1969 Commando revitalization.

I rebuilt this ‘69 ”S” that was sold last year. I don’t recall the cranking compression. Combats tend to be higher than all the other models. The 182psi is the ‘72 combat in my garage.

Took my first ride today on the Norton and I'm stoked , the exhaust tone, the torky feel , the Hyde rear sets it's all awesome :) . This was my first ride on a British bike and first street bike with a front drum , I need to adjust the drum it has minimal braking power, and my clutch is a tough pull not comfy at all, few other tid bits and I'll go out for a serious shake down. Thanks all !

Good luck with it, look after it and it might last another 40 or 50 yrs....
 
Can this hose be routed under the primary and then up to the oil tank ?

Is the high pipes the only missing items? What other S versus standard Commando differences are there?

The 'S' had the headlamp halo, central oil tank, closer fitting front mudguard/fender, different handlebars, side panels with RH battery access and a different style fuel tank, seat and chainguard and 20M3S timing cover points engine to the 20M3 Fastback model although the 'R' type (before the Roadster) had the same style fuel tank and seat as the 'S' Type it was otherwise closer in specification to the Fastback.

The "S" also has the really noticeable silver taillight housing and the not so noticeable chrome hamcan front cover, and a rear fender that is different from the later bikes (I don't know when the change happened).

Question: I have one to build but the barrels are black - should they be aluminum color to match the head or black? Does anyone have a list of the black/aluminum barrels by model, year, or whatever - I would like to include that info in my Commando ID Page:

Awesome post I’m learning . To fully comprehend Commando types its going to take time and pictorial comparisons because so far the only differences I see are Halo's and pipes the rest all looks the same.
