What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?

Got mine ready to start up tomorrow, it's had a new oil tank, barbed filter head, nos herringbone hose ,reed valve, single new 32mm Premier and thin air filter from RGM just filled up with oil so it can sit tonight. No doubt it will piss down tomorrow..........

Question: If you have no center stand, how do you grease your chain? Check oil? Do maintenance?
Another 300 km. fishing / camping trip return . rain , but fun . Caught my limit in tiny creeks . Mosquitos . Bike ran great .
After return ( battling 401 construction traffic ) in Toronto , washed the bike on the side stand , let it dry ( had a beer from 401 stress ) , then got out the squirt bottle of gear oil . Used a knee pad to apply it along the lower chain rung , then pushed the bike forwards 5 feet to apply more to the lower length . Then 3 more feet , more gear oil , then rolled it backwards into parking spot on street . Shop rag cleaned a few drips , you want to leave a clean street .
This is the IWIS Chain , it has not shown any wear after 3 years and I drive a lot , can't say that for the previous Reynold ones . I clean and lube it after every trip exceeding 250 KMS .
As for oil tank level checking , I do that on the side stand too . I pull the dipstick , wipe it clean , put it into the filler cap ( resting on top ) , lift it and observe level ( anywhere around half way between high and low is fine ) . The motor uses J.S. intake valve seals with Black Diamond valves , and the bedded in pistons mean it uses next to no oil . No leaks .
Here in Toronto , my friend Michel offered recently to help with maintenance out of the goodness of his heart . He has a lift and we tore apart the front end and put in a new one . Thanks .

Herefordshire on the Edge. 226 mile round trip around the borders of Herefordshire. Overcast / grey day, but it didnt rain and it wasnt cold. A good day out.

Weather forecast here included POWERFUL T-storms, flooding, tornado warnings. The usual daily "stay home & hide in your basement" fear mongering.
My Wife & I enjoyed a nice hundred miler, keeping an eye on the doppler. Zero rain.

The "bland-ness" of the UK weather does have its advantages...

Two other chaps on Commandos were riding round, met them several times at different places around the county.

The other week we had weather warnings in the UK that temperatures could reach 26c or 78° f 🙄🙄🙄🙄
What the hell is that all about?
Warning old people of the dangers when at least 10x the amount of old people actually die of cold in the winter FFS

Not the most impressive journey ever, after 5 years under a dust sheet, 3m out of the shed and 3m back in and onto the workbench, small steps.

My mate was a self addicted polisher but one of his tricks to keep the front inside hub polished was to put a leather cat collar around the inside of the hub loosely, it self polished the hub while riding, worked for him he had a show wining Shovelhead Sportster which was also a rider.

Spent some time mocking up and test fitting the PR style tank and seat to my '70 Commando. The Interstate tank and seat will be moving over to the MkIII when it is ready, so I am hoping to make the '70 a fun street and occasional track day bike. I've got most of the parts for a Lockheed racing disc conversion together, which should be next on the list once everything is here.

Rick,
Where on the swing arm does your rear stand rest on?
Thanks,
Mike
