What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?

Relocated the rectifier and flasher relay on my early Mk2 onto a bracket from AN...

Not a five minute job, as the loom has to be jiggled forward etc...

Can't believe I spent £16 + vat on that flimsy tray (plus a tenner on the bracket) and gained so little storage space, but there we go. It's only money, right?

I never saw one of those plastic things. Will it actually hold the tool kit? It looks like it would be easier to get to than removing the sidecover. Not sure what that AN bracket does. Couldn't you just mount the rectifier and turnsignal flasher on the front side using the same holes? Sorry so many questions.. If it is useful it would be easy to do on my bike - no rectifier or turnsignals.

There wasn't a bracket on my bike, so nowhere to mount the rectifier (the relay is right behind its original resting place on the frame, so would be good 👍)

I have a slot in the LH side panel too, so that's where the tool roll resides. Doesn't hurt to have a bit more space though.

No flasher relay or rectifier? The tray will just slot in. Bloody expensive for what it is though!

Bloody glorious day today in Michigan! Went for the first ride of the season, a paltry 36 mile back country road cruise to the nearby covered bridge and surrounding countryside. So nice!
Supposed to have the same weather tomorrow, at 21C, so I plan on taking another ride tomorrow:)

21c is perfect riding weather, we are 2 weeks into our autumn and great having temps under 30c has been so hot and humid here the last few months, so a cool change is great, I like our winter rides as the days never get below 18c and our coldest nights are around 8c mostly and warmer, great living in the sub tropics and of course the Norton loves the cooler days and nights.

I rode my Norton to Daytona to camp with the Nortona folks at Flagler Beach FL. On Wednesday the 7th I rode over 3 hours in the hardest rain I have ever driven in. The rain ended somewhere around Savanah GA going south on Interstate 95. Since I was running late and did not want to drive much after dark I flogged it pretty hard running just over 4000 rpm doing 80mph. A few 15 to 20 min bursts of 90 mph and one of 100 mph just to prove to myself that the old 1972 can still do it.
On the way home Saturday and Sunday I avoided freeways altogether and rode for 10 hours in two days.

Another fun quick ride yesterday around the back country hood. Noticed that my front wheel is a little wobbly as I approached 55mph.

80mph....90mph....100....! on a Norton! I can't imagine ever having the balls to do that myself....

Glad to see that you went down there! I agree with you taking 2 days to get home as it makes the ride much more enjoyable.Get in touch for the next event.
Thanks,Mike

Rob, Something is wrong with your front end. These bikes don’t mind running at higher speeds! When you get a moment, give me a call.

I time to spare so I welded the D slugs into the headers and ran up Dyno hill.
The result was zero change, same as Nigel's dyno result with the D washer.
With or without the D exhaust slugs the bike hits 113 kmh at top with a plugged crossover pipe, same as always.
I'll remove the slugs and try the inlet sleeves next.

Ha! I know you're right Mike. It's not the bike that minds running at higher speeds, it's me!...:).
In fact the front wheel is a little out of sorts. Original and it was much worse last summer but had my local guy true it up as good as he could but still not perfect for higher speeds. I'm having a new set of wheels built for me right now with Buchannan Excel aluminum rims, ss spokes, new sealed bearings installed in the hubs, and Bridgestone Battlax rubber fitted. I'm confident that the ride will be much improved. Pretty excited too. Maybe I'll get up to 50mph!.....🤣
