Noise is more likely to be coming from the anti-backfire device.

Don't feel bad, nearly everyone gets hit by that at some point.
Even Jim Comstock had to use a recovery vehicle to get his bike home after the exhaust nut came loose on a trip.
Of course his bike did not have his threaded bronze insert fix in place at the time.
Once those are in, it seems the loose exhaust nut problem is solved.

I don't know having an 850 hard mounted in the Featherbed frame, crank balanced for it and hard mount exhaust system I have never had lose headers or problem with fu cked exhaust thread in 44+ years, so rubber mounts seems to cause a few other problems.

Yeah but it's worth the trouble since the Commandos are super smooth. Really can't beat it unless you go to a modern bike. Even some of those aren't as smooth as a Commando cruising along.

Stevo,
Keep us posted on how you like the new bars. I like the look of the flatter ones but how you feel after some miles
Mike
Also how tall are you?
Weather improved today so went out for another h bar evaluation ride. Being long in the leg has always put limits on riding comfort for me, mainly affecting me knackered knees nowadays but overall improvement and feel in riding position with these bars I feel is a worthwhile change and I just think they look so much better. I'm sticking with 'em.

Can you remind us which bars you’re referring to please Stevo ?

Eddie, they were advertised as Norton Euro Narrow type, 06.4887, 06.5748 that look to have a different form? Didn’t get them from AN although apparently they do have a stock. Not sure why two numbers are quoted.

The Norton and I took advantage of a clear sky and temperatures in the low 60s to go for a ride. Interestingly, when starting I always position the pistons at TDC or a little beyond, kind of like starting a big single. I did this today and twice (at different starting times) it coughed back hard and blew oil smoke out of the breather. I am not worried but it has never happened with this frequency. Maybe it's something I am doing?

Also, I almost hit a Guinea fowl that could not make up it's mind which side of the road it needed to be on. It was a good ride. Nortons are fun!

Went for another enjoyable run in the chilly sunshine and pulled over in a well known grocery store parking lot. Got off the bike, still got helmet on and some middle aged smart arse getting out of his car say's, 'Is that some kind of Triumph?!!! I ask him to repeat it then replied, 'No sir, it's not, it's a NORTON'.
A few minutes later, an older guy comes up and says, 'You know what it reminds me of? I says 'what's that?' He replied, "The Triumph I had back in the seventies'! Jeesus!!! We chatted briefly, he wasn't a smart arse though like the other guy.

Made my Hagon shocks look a little more 'original'...

For what I need them for, I'm really happy with the performance of the Hagon shocks, but the cheesy sticker and gun metal grey section, just didn't look right...

And with a rattle can of Hammerite Satin Black, gave them the once over (actually twice 🙂)...

What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?

A much better look I reckon.
