Just saying hi! New to me late 72 Commando, spent 650 miles and 2 ferry rides in the van purchasing it. Kinda thought it was a rider, but not so much, oh well. A lying pic, after some cleaning, and taken at the just right angle . I'm back in the fold after a 40 year absence, my last Norton was a "late 72 Commando" also. A good friend has THAT bike in beautiful condition. Hoping I can achieve rideable for this summer. Then dig into getting her looking and running as she should over winter. Prolly keep it mostly stock with a few reliability, quality of ride tweaks.

While unconventional, I think that color combo looks great.

The look nice David.
How do the upswepts sound in comparison to the downsweeps?

Looks pretty nice, Gary. What makes it not a rider? And welcome back to the fold.

Thanks @lcrken Still in discovery mode, it's had 300 miles on it since a motor overhaul, 2nd oversize, by a shop in 2016. Starts third kick even with capacitor instead of battery and runs but a bit clattery. Got 130 145 compressions. One side feels like the compression slithers out. Need to stick the camera in the holes, check valve clearances a few other things before I'll attempt a trip around the country block. It's got a canister oil filter kit? And it's oozing about everything everywhere. Even with a mile or two running last couple days tops didn't look quite oily enough. Might be a runner but...... Guess I need to start a thread...

They don’t normally ooze from everywhere, it’s normally one or two leaks that LOOKS like it’s from everywhere.

Clean thoroughly and run it to see if you can see where the ooze originates.

And do a search in here about reed valve breathers.

And yes... start a thread !

Double valves ? Do you mean those clamp covers just below the taps ? They were on there for a short period of time along with a pair of small in line filters to deal with the rubbish coming down from the tank .

I like it. I had the idea long ago to have a dragon wearing a monocle painted on my side covers... a fire breathing Brit. Never found an artist who could do it.
