I just found out - through Ballistic Products warranty service - that LiFePO batteries do not play well with positive ground systems.
My latest lasted 15 months and he was surprised I'd gotten that far with it.
Anybody else had better luck while retaining the positive ground system?
I have had great success with mine.
This is interesting.
My 2 position switch use to have no load so when i forgot to turn it off a couple times there was absolutely no problem. I left it on for 2 or 3 weeks once. Pushed the horn, turned on the lights, tried the brake lights, no loss of charge. This was with any battery.
With the new electronic tach, there is, apparently, a measurable draw, although I have not measured it. I walked out and noticed the key in the on position the other day. Stone dead, no horn, light, brake light.....nothing. I fired up the bike and almost instantly, the Shorai responded as if nothing was ever wrong.
It's as if it gets to a threshold and just shuts down as if it was switched off inernally and when a charge starts feeding it, it wakes right up as if you turned on the internal switch.
I have these little lithium polymer cells for for RC planes. Some have been sitting down there for a few years and when I put a meter to them it is as if I just took them off the charger. Spooky stuff.
