cNw e-start conversion

Yes, my beefed up MK3 starter works great on the 828cc MK3, but the 920 is quite a different animal. I can kick the 850 over without thinking about it. The 920 takes a bit of planning and then almost all of the effort I can muster. That's with the long RGM kicker.
The 1360 (11 to 1)Vincent takes even more effort, but surprisingly the 920 isn't far off.
The big cam in the 1360 makes kick starting possible.
 
I believe those Denso starters in the CNW kit are used on everything from big Harleys to cars and Kubota diggers. On the subject of weight saving, How much do the removed parts weigh .e.g. triplex chain, kickstart lever and shaft ?

The cNw e-start kit weighs 24 lbs complete.

Remove the weight of the stock inner primary, front sprocket, chain and clutch basket and your net weight gain is 11 lbs over a stock, chain drive, set up

This does not take in account further weight reduction with the Barnett clutch (over a Bronze stack) and possible battery weight.

Bronze plates weigh 1085g
A motobatt 9ah weighs 3364g
That is 4449g or 9lbs 13oz

Barnett plates weigh 349g
A 18ah Shorai weighs 1073g
That is 1422g or 3lbs 3oz

A savings of 3027g or 6lbs 10oz.

So, if the CNW kit itself adds 11 lbs, less the savings of the Barnett + Shorai, then it is only a total gain of 4lbs 6oz or 1984g.

Just skip a couple pints, a steak and ice cream and have a salad.

I don't think you'll be able to do that. A pre-MKIII primary isn't going to fit on MKIII cases. Plus you've got chain tensioners and left side shift to contend with. I would focus on beefing up the MKIII starter to handle the job.
 
This bike is right shift at the moment. It's a pre MK3 trans and RGM belt drive, primary covers yet to be determined. A real dogs breakfast of various parts and shop built stuff.
So neither starter is going to fit without a lot of mods.
Both are costly, either one would add quite a lot of weight so hopefully e start won't be needed.
If it is, the CNW unit sounds like the best bet, we know it has enough cranking power.

Removal of the centre stand will save 5 lbs (not needed if not kickstarting), then there’s removal of the kick start and internals too!
 
Given the MK3 inner has a four bolt mount to the engine, that will need to be rectified. Are the distances from crank > mainshaft the same? And to the inner mounting stud - that looks very different?

Going to be a very heavy dogs breakfast as my planned primary inner and outer will only weigh about 1 lb.
Going to an estart will likely add about 30 lbs
Maybe I'll take steroids and add ten lb. to myself instead :)

Rearsets and toss the kicker boot ankle , wrecker thing and you can eat drink and be Merry for Christmas . And if you are here in Australia you have riding weather AND FA COVID .

I'm planning to put it on my featherbed/Commando race bike when I convert it to a street bike. But if that gets delayed, I might think about putting it on the '73 Combat Interstate I'm slowly putting back together (just a mostly stock rebuild, nothing fancy). In my fantasy world, I might start on the Hemmings Northton kit and use it for that, or finally put the JS Monoshock back together as a street bike. But in reality, I don't dare even think about those until I get the current build projects finished.
