Hi all,

Another year is coming to an end. It has been almost 5 years since the cNw e-start was developed and made available.

Sales have been really strong and I am very grateful to all those that have supported me and purchased these kits over the last several years

I have held the price on these conversions since day one even though I have seen price increases across the board for parts and services that are included in the kit. So it's time to make a price adjustment to reflect those increases

That said, this will take place New Years.

I am finishing and building kits as fast as I can to fill current orders and this will go on up until the holidays. If you place an order between now and New Years to take advantage of the current price before the increase, these kits will ship early January

Thanks and Happy Holidays

Matt

For any that haven't heard the cNw e-start kit is excellent (OK, that was silly, who hasn't heard). For those able to bring or ship their bike, I have a special, look here: https://www.gregmarsh.com/MC/Norton/CNWSpecial.aspx

If you commit before the end of the year so I can order a kit for you at the current price, the posted price will be honored - otherwise my price will be adjusted to Matt's changes. I am swamped right now so installs of the kit will be mid to late spring - no, you don't pay anything until done. If there are other cNw items you want, we can work out installing them too.

I only install the kits I supply. I don't sell the kit - makes no sense for me to buy, pay shipping to me and then pay to ship to you.

Still the best money I have ever spent!

Just want to follow up on this.
I have an MK3, with the associated problems with the starter system.
I bought CNW's kit for MK3. Believes that it cost about the same as the parts from AN. , but this kit that Matt has made is in a completely different division.
I have now been using it for a season and it has worked 100%.

It seems you bought the starter drive upgrade kit, which is another product from CnW. It doesn't alter the starter system basically,
thus alien to the topic of this thread

Vidar, it seems you converted your Mk3 to a Mk2 primary drive (made by CnW). This will not work unless you modify your gearbox and brake pedal arrangement also.
Some information is wrong or missing here ......

CNW do 2 kits, the second is an upgrade for the MK3 where the parts are the same dimensionally as the MK3 Factory Parts/Andover Norton but with improved manufacturing including materials & heat treatment. This is the kit referred to by Vidar.

I have the MK3 upgrade (the other one) and it has been a blessing. My starter mechanism has worked flawlessly all summer. I am happy I upgraded.

I’ve said it before in other posts, so forgive me, but I’m gonna say it again here for the benefit
of any folks currently on the fence and pondering Matts e start…

I run Matts e start on my stage 3 Maney 920 with 11:1 compression ratio. That’s a tall order, def outside the scope of the original design considerations. The starter motor spins it likes there’s no plugs in! It’s not stressed by it AT ALL.

The bike gets used on the track too and Matts belt isn’t phased by the hard use AT ALL either.

Given the reports of border line engineering on some other kits, the cNw kit is a no brainer IMHO.

(Cheque to the usual address please Matt…)

How much overlap do you have on your cam?

Not enough to make any difference Swoosh. Actually I was relying on that, but it didn’t help.

The reason I fitted the e start was precisely becasue it was SO difficult to kick over. With 11:1 CR and total seal rings, getting the thing over compression is tricky. And starting it requires some serious oomph. When I say oomph, I mean I was genuinely worried of injuring myself if the kick start gave way. I’ll be way over 210lbs all dressed up and had to put serious acrobatic effort into kicking the thing !

Hence… when I saw the utter ease with which the e start turns it over, I was amazed !

You're bucking for a raise, aren't you?

Seriously tho, it moves the motor like its butter.

I worked quite hard at reducing weight on my bike (not as hard as Ludwig or Glen, but fairly hard) so adding weight with an e start was the last thing on my mind. In the past, on bikes like my TSS and T160 the e start was the first thing to be removed !

But the starting issue was basically meaning the bike got used less and definitely spoiled the whole experience. The difference between having all that stress and aggro, vs calmly pressing the button, is well worth the weight penalty for me.

I can vouch for Nigel's statement, I jumped on his kick start at Mallory and it didn't move, with a bit of time spent easing it over TDC, it was possible to spin it over but it needs a very committed kick even then. It beggars belief how easy the electric foot turns that engine over.

I'll be going this CNW route if I run into trouble starting this 920 once it's out in the big wide world.
Its has a MK3 crank and cases, but I doubt even the beefed up MK3 starter would handle it.
I hope its possible to use a CNW conversion on this bike. The conversion might require conversion.

I aimed for 9.5 to 1 and got a measured 9.7, however that is with a stock cam, which makes things worse. Conventional rings though, so if you stand on the kicker for awhile it eventually bleeds thru.

Don't write off the mk3 starter. I'm 168lbs plus kit and can bounce up and down on my kick start without moving it. My starter handles it fine. 3,000miles now (and more starts than usual, due to fettling the carb) on standard AN parts, including sprag. I do have a meaty battery though. 16Ah, I think.

That's jinxed it!
