must sell my 850 its a 73 was wondering about a few stamps on motor and frame on the cases down by the the big plug there is a 142 is that the production number its on both halfs right next to each othere and is the number on the neck of the frame a production number. and does the title go with the motor or the frame if sold sperate.

and was wonder what the motor might be worth it is rebuilt from the head done new pistons cyclenders bored crank turned both are 20 over robs where reconditioned all new gaskets bearings and is assemabled except for head and timing cover

the frame has been cut someone cut the back tube that raps around the rear fender and the angle tubes that would have ran under the oiltank frame has oo112 stamped on the neck

and have clean title bike was a basket case someone tried to make it look like a harley didnt rack or modify frame angles just cut parts off

thanks

I traded $1,000 worth of parts for a complete engine not that long ago; it was in "so-so" shape, got a total overhaul. If you have the time, energy and patience to sell it part by part on e-bay you can triple that amount. I've seen engine with no primary or tranny sell for $500, I've seen complete lower ends sell for $500, I've seen certain heads (RH4 & RH10 stamped on top) in good shape sell for $350+, and a nice tranny sold here for $300 not too long ago.

Title typically follows the frame.

Engine serial number is at the top left of the crankcases, just below the cylinder.

If you don't get a better offer, I'll give you $350 for the whole engine. The last thing i need to do is start yet another project, but i can't seem to help myself...

Those matching numbers were stamped during engine production so the two crankcase halves didn't get mixed up with any others after they had been machined as a matched pair.

As far as I know, when the number got up to 999 or whatever, they just started again, probably from 001? So as a production identifier, the number is meaningless.

theres a 1000 in new parts and machine work in the motor so 350 wont buy it all thats left is head work

Do not feel lik the "Lone Stranger" on this, if I have $1.00 I will spend $3.00 on Old Bikes and somehow my Bank Accounts are all screwed up!

As I buy a new project I always shake my head and say "I need another Old Bike like I need another hole in my Head" and then I load up my new "treasures" and go find a place to store it.
