What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?

Those using heated vests, I have a Gerbing and I've found with a leather jacket, I'm comfortable all day at 6 degrees Celsius, on setting 3 of 5. With a gore-tex laminated jacket, I'm fine on setting 2, maybe even 1. I think the textile reduces airflow more than leather. Easy way to reduce battery consumption.
Leather is for protection , not so good for heat or warmth .

Took note re the seat clamp knobs going walk about so sorted out roll pin for one side and 10BA screw for other to stop that little game.

Bought it a new coat and lubes, just to let it know it's still part of the plan :)

Hi Estuary Boy
I used to use "plastic" covers similar to the one shown, but found they caused condensation
and thus corrosion in the winter. I now use breathable synthetic dust overs, and have recently
taken to using king size poly cotton fitted bed sheets, £12 each from TU at Sainsbury's!
Take care with your new toy.

Grisslegripper you are the KING of the bot/trolls here ...and when the content don't go your way you cry/complain to the establishment and have my posts along with others removed...I have documented history of it...hence my snarky reply to your LGB post...yes I've trolled you ...so best you keep your nose clean
Lol, can always count on you for a laugh bud!

Thanks for the 'heads up'... Though according to the Oxford blurb: 'Air can constantly travel through the breathable material', and: 'Breathable material to avoid condensation/moisture retention and the resulting risk of rust' AND: 'A RIDE Magazine 'Best Buy'.

Allegedly :)

Opened up The Vac Bag bag . It's really big , 6 ft. by 10 ft. . Battery out first. The idea is to "paddle" the bike into it . I'll get a neighbor to hold it fully open. Squeeze myself out of the bag .Then open up the Drysorb sack and drop it between the wheels . Then close it all up tight with the supplied big zip tie. Then I'll fit the regular orange/ black cover on top . Instructions state the imortance of rolling it in totally dry with no road salt on the tires. Wish me luck.

Good luck. I would never leave my Norton on a parking space on a street for the winter in T.O. IF circumstances nesessatated it I would have 4-2×2's staking the 4 corners painted with reflective paint shoved into the snowbanks to make the bike less difficult for the plow drivers to see. Why not park it on the grass in front of the dwelling out of harm's way?

Artist's colony. No vehicles stored/ allowed anywhere on site , e- bikes or Bicycles only , we have a heated bicycle room , which I use . ( e-bike and 2 bicycles for me .. one bike ( Trek ) for summer use , one heavy wide tire cruiser for winter use . No smoking here too. Marijuana totally legal now but smoke it in the Park or street. Organic farmer's market on Saturdays. Thank god I'm allowed to eat meat. Why am I attracted to vegetarian sexy women ?
I have 2 fluorescent posts to put on each side of the bike. I'll set this up then fly to Nicaragua for the winter to escape it all to fish and paint.

So, wait, you park the bike on the street for the winter, all bagged up. Then you leave the country for the winter in hopes that nothing happens to your bike. If something did, it would just lay there since you're out of country anyway. Then when you return in the spring you find out how your bike faired during the winter? Wow! Poor bike! I don't know that I could bring myself to do that. I would much sooner leave such a restrictive residence in Toronto, or rent a space in someone's garage to store the bike. You must have friends with garages. Either way, I would love to see the final result of your bagged bike before you leave the country for the winter.

I probably won't ride my bike for a week or two so I extracted the oil from the tank so it won't end up in the sump and make it impossible to start. I've been using a bigger extractor for years on cars, bikes, generators etc. (often via the dipstick tube) and love it, but this small one will be dedicated to motorcycle use. Got them both at West Marine and both were on sale recently...

And the oil can easily be drained into a clean ice cream tub
inspected and if good/not old poured back into the oil tank.

I much prefer to let mine wet sump over the winter such that
the crank case is full of oil to retard any corrosion.

If I leave mine unridden for more than a couple of weeks, this takes less than 5 minutes and doesn't wear the threads on the crankcase.
Thinking of ordering in this magnetic sump kit. It recommends the spanner for it too . I have a deep 1 1/2 " big socket for the original sump . Would this work with the kit ?

I too looked at this for the P11, I'd guess the spanner is to stop the large plug turning as you undo the small one, something not achievable with a socket/box wrench perhaps?

I do the large plug up with a new solid copper gasket/washer with Blue Hylomar on the gasket
and the first bit of the thread using a big socket. Then do the magnetic drain plug up with a ring
spanner, again with a solid copper washer and similar with Blue Hylomar. I like the thread locking
properties of Blue Hylomar and it can be tweaked tighter if need be as the

Blue Hylomar does not set hard. I find the smaller drain plug can be removed with a spanner
without disturbing the large plug. Allow oil to drain, inspect and put back in oil tank. Clean
and replace small drain plug with new copper washer and Blue Hylomar.

Blue Hylomar is resistant to petrol and oil and needs Acetone (Nail varnish remover - Don't
tell your wife:oops:) or similar to clean it off.
