What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?

I've chased a strange somewhat ringing noise on my Mk 2 850 forever.
Finally just put it off to the harmonics of the wind ringing through the fins.
I don't remember this on other Commandos.
Whether that's the issue or not, i've given up as there are no mechanical maladies.

I found my noise, a tinkling more than ringing. Was the locking tab washers on the exhaust header collars. I'll properly sort it one day. I couldn't face undoing the collars and going through the re-tightening process, so I stuck the washers to the collars with high temp gasket goo. Still good 3 years later.

After 50+ years of riding without ear plugs my hearing is still good, hey what you say lol.
Just a bit of a joke at the end, I have no problem with my hearing after 50 years of riding without ear plugs, but at the end I put what you say as a joke I can't hear and I am deaf when the wife suggest anything lol.

Went to visit a friend today non bike related and took the opportunity to have some fun comparing what I can hear when swapping between two helmets, one open one full and my two pairs of earplugs.

With the 24dB plugs/open face I couldn’t hear my mystery noise such was the racket from everything else; fun but wearing in the extreme. 30dB plugs and full face I still couldn’t hear it but the induction roar took over and droned like crazy but swapping back to the open face the bike sounds wonderful without being tiring but I can hear that noise on occasion.

So it’s all down to acoustics in the end on the Commando. I don’t have this issue on my other bikes. They act predictably. The W being so quiet anyway with the 30 dB I can hear almost nothing at any speed and the RE’s single cylinder thump is still audible but both are tolerable with the 24dB plugs unlike the Norton. Mystery solved… 🤔

I assume you’ve set the pegs back due to your tank/saddle combo. Can’t say I like the appearance much but I understand the comfort benefits; I certainly wouldn’t want my pegs any further back on my bike my knees are already fairly bent as it is. Not too sure about those snail horns either, I’d rather take the wheel off; all looks a bit busy to me.
I presume you're talking about my bike?
My (Interstate ) tank is 4" longer than your's, hence my footrests are 4" further back than yours - and I have more than twice the range.
Your opinion on appearance doesn't matter.
The horns are louder, in the open (more effective) and maintainable - I am very sure I like them.
I'm not a fan of yellow.

Your tank may be 4” longer but your Corbin is chopped off from the front, your butt is the same distance from the bars as mine. Just saying. I like the yellow😃

I ride with my arse pushed right back to the hump. I rode FE’s bike, it was exactly the same but my feet were of course much further back, knees therefore lower and ankles at a much more acute angle, same reach though; actually slightly different as his bars are a tad lower and narrower. Great at speed not so good around town. Yours I imagine would be a good compromise especially as you like to ride at 135mph😂😂😂 Of course leg length has a lot to do with it too but I’m super comfortable on mine so will be leaving as is.

I have the same horns as you, in the same position, but have them pointed downwards, don't yours scoop up rainwater and send it down to the bottom of the air duct?
I have small holes drilled in the bottoms for that reason. 👍

You can't see that, in your photo, FE has to sit further back than you?
That's why he has rearsets too - although his are 8" back compared to my 4".
Cheers
The seat, seat bracket, location of bracket to the seat and location of bracket to the frame, are all identical between Corbin Roadster and Interstate seats.

The only difference is that the front part is chopped off on the Interstate.

Yes - so obviously you can't sit on that "chopped off" bit

On this subject, one takeaway from riding FE’s bike was that without the front portion of the saddle which normally, due to its incline to the top of the tank, prevents one from sliding forward especially under decel I found I was often in contact with the tank’s ridges. No biggie on such a short ride but I suspect less than ideal for me on longer runs. This in turn forced my knees outward and thus my toes too, not ideal.

Ergonomically I prefer the Roadster layout even if I have twice as many fuelling stops. Much worse had I bought a Matisse 🤣

My France road trip will be the acid test;)

I've put an interstate tank and seat on my roadster. I did it for the tank range. With the factory seat you are moved backwards, probably 3", so I don't get the crown jewels crusher / legs in the breeze issue. I did find the feet slightly forward position a bit odd at first, but quickly got used to it. I seem to be able to ride long stretches without discomfort.

Still prefer the Roadster look though.
