Unusual (to me) Oil Pressure Gauge Line

I had a leaking oil pressure gauge line and not knowing it's age, decided to replace it with a new tube.

Upon disassembly, I found connectors on the ends of the tubing that I have not seen before. The end at the engine was so stuck that I decided to warm it up with a heat gun, just to soften it a bit. Next thing I knew it melted in half! I got all of the old material out of the fitting leaving the tiny metal tube in the middle which freely moves about 1/16" in and out.

When I tried to install the new Doorman 1/8" OD nylon tube, the collar did not clamp it down at all. It falls right out with a light pull.

The top fitting is a bit of a larger center tube which the 1/8" OD nylon Doorman tube does not appear to be able to stretch or expand around.

The part that attaches to the engine was clearly made to fit a Norton, so I'm thinking it may just be a typical Norton thing which someone on this forum may be familiar with?

Do I need a specific type of tube, and where would I find one in the U S?

Thanks,
Ed

Thanks L.A.B.!

I couldn't make out the "un" of unlimited. This made my search very "un"successful.
Here's what I found with your link on the Triples Unlimited web page. 45 Euros ($52.40 USD) plus unknown shipping, tariff, and wait time from Greece. Right when I thought I had a simple job I could do...what could go wrong?

I think I really just need the tubing itself. As long as my heat gun didn't damage that lower metal fitting with the tiny pipe in the center, at the engine end. It has some nylon in the female threads, that has been unaffected by the heat and the little pipe in the middle wiggles around freely, so I think it's ok.

The link for the tubing looks like wholesale, but I'll try and contact them and see if there's someone who could sell me a small piece. I'll contact Triples to see if they have a USA vendor also. I would buy the kit to be sure of success if it were available here.

See link below;

I could be wrong, but my feeling is that the flexible tubing is somehow attached to the tiny brass tube and secured into the nut during manufacturing.

The picture from thier website shows them together, it seems to me the hardware should be loose in the bag. I also don't see what would hold the tube in otherwise? I have enquired about that with Triples.

Does anyone have experience with these tubes and fittings? There are no ferrules as I would expect them to have.

I have experience with those fittings.

You are incorrect about the ferrule being attached prior.

If you mean the little brass tube in the fitting that goes inside the flexible tube, then I hope you're right! That should make things cheaper and easier.

In my experience, which does not include these types of fittings, ferrules are a larger mostly cone shape piece that goes on the OD of the flexible tube and crushes around it. A disposable one time use item.

I should have word back from Triples sometime tomorrow. Looking forward to learning something new!

Mystery solved! Concours is right. There is a ferrule. Mine must be stuck in the nut. Non-reuseable, and I'll probably destroy the tiny brass tube getting it out. My thanks to John at Triples!

Hi Ed
The connection of the plastic line to the hexagon connector that is on
the stainless
pipe goes as on the picture I am attaching.
There is that steel ferule that is tapered on one end.
When the nut is tightened the taper contracts and firmly "bites"
on the plastic line.
The brass sim is there to hold the plastic line and not collapse under
the pressure.
Probably the ferule in your connector is stuck in the hexagon.
You can use a pliers to remove it.
That it can't be reused, you have to install a new one.
You should ask about it in a shop that makes hydraulic high pressure
lines
for tractors or trucks or hydraulic lines for vehicle brake systems.
This is the smallest metric size possible that is commercially available
(4mm).
The plastic line is from Pneumatic parts.
It is the hard one and comes in various colors, it can withstand
up to 90°C temperature.
Hope you find those parts there easily
otherwise contact me to arrange for an order.
Cheers
John
