As far as I know my bike is a MK2 model, but I have found a few bits on it that only appear in the MK3 Parts List. A few days ago I found the clip that holds the rocker oil line to the head steady which is only listed on the MK3 models.
Now I have removed the rectifier bracket as pictured below which is also only listed on the MK3 model parts list.

And . . . from the MK3 parts list - - item No. 25

Rectifier Bracket on Mk2

My VIN, engine and gearbox numbers are all matching which is 315001. From what I can see this makes it a '74 model and pre MK3.

Is there an explanation why these later parts are being used on an earlier model. I doubt an owner has put MK3 parts on a MK2 as everything on the bike seems original even down to herringbone oil lines.

Thanks

Don

This has cropped up before, as it seems the 'Mk3' rectifier bracket was actually fitted to the later Mk2/2A models.

Same goes for the often quoted 'Mk3 gearbox breather vent' and 'sealed' swinging arm pivot, both of which were introduced on the Mk2/2A models, so the parts lists are not always 100% accurate.

Anyone with a Mk2 or 2A really should have a copy of the Mk2/2A parts supplement (065988) as that is more accurate than any of the online parts lists.
Although AN recently updated their 1974 online parts lists and drawings to include more 2A parts, various Mk2/2A parts are still not included but can occasionally be found if the part number is entered into the search.

The supplement comes without drawings however, the '73 drawings have been added to it in the link, below:

The MKII and MIIA were one year only, kinda half way between the older models and the MKIII. Be aware if you decide to get into the swing arm of the MKII that the spindle is unique. It has the welch plugs and felt wicks like the MKIII but also has the central fixing hole like older models.

I wasn't aware that there was a parts manual update for them, thanks LAB.

The MK3 introduction was a major change with lots of part changes, it made sense for any parts that could be introduced earlier than the full model year change to be changed in advance. This would cut down on the complexity of the final change from Mk2/Mk2A over to MK3. When I was involved in of organising the Model year changes at Longbridge on the Mini and Metro, the first task once the engineering details were released was to trawl through all the changes to see if any parts could be introduced earlier. When the 85 MY Metro was introduced 50% of the parts changed and we had 12 months to organise, any way to reduce the 50% by early introductions was jumped on. The suppliers were just as happy as us, saved a lot of heartache from ending up with too many of the old part and the spares not wanting any.

My MK2a is earlier than yours and does not have the MK3 you have.

It is actually listed in the 2/2A supplement (Group 4, Item 36A)! :D
