Carlos is this you? Go get some more of your 20 year old friends and take over the club. We really need younger minds to bring back the fun :)

So as a 20 year old, in my Norton club -NCNOC- thy call me the puppy I the group and I'm curious as to why there aren't more younger people involved in bikes like these. I told the president Of my NOG that I would do my best to bring the age average down and recruit younger folk and so far I've convinced one person and that was my Principle from High School. Although its not the age I was looking for its a start and soon enough ill have my own gang to ride with. Have fun riding guys and be safe. If you see a young kid on a commando its probably me so don't be afraid to stop and say hi!

Haha yes Dave. And by Carlos I think you meant Angel. I'm working on getting my college buddies into old Brit bikes even if they get a triumph haha

It's good to see some young fellers stepping up to carry the torch! These bikes need a new generation to care for them after us old timers are all gone.

Mostly 50+ in our club.

(need the graybeard emoticon here!)

The 40 year olds missed bikes and went straight to cars when the bike licence age went up from 16 to 17 in the UK

And most 50 yearolds then? As the increase in minimum age occurred in 1971, only riders who would now be well into their late 50's would've been legally allowed to ride a motorbike in the UK at 16. :)

I’m 64. At 17 my first motorcycle was a 1966 100cc Yamaha twin. A year later I bought my friend’s 1963 ES2 Norton and discovered a whole new world. In 2001 I bought a partially restored 1973 Commando Interstate. Five years it was on the road and I’ve now put 3000 miles on it and thoroughly enjoy the bike. I am so glad to see there are some younger owners. Otherwise there will eventually be no interest …. and then our bikes will be worthless!!

I'm 49 years old

I got my first Norton when I was 21 (1969 scrambler)

I got my second Norton when I was 25 (1972 roadster combat)

I got my last Norton when I was 29 (1975 Interstate)

I saw my first Norton while in he Army based in Virginia. It was a black Commando sitting in the window at the dealer while getting my Yamaha R5C 350 serviced. The Norton looked Hugh!!! Flash forward 10 years and after getting divorced, I bough a Yamaha 400 four stroke and hooked up with some friends with Nortons and was promptly left in the dust so I had to have one. My first Norton was red and always made a funny tappet noise till I sold it. I fought the Amals and points, but still loved the bike till I sold it for a new 1982 Suzuki 1100 for $3200 out the door price.

Years later one of the bikes my original Norton friends became available and I've had it for the last 20 tears and spent a considerable amount of money restoring it and making it more reliable, but I keep it for my around town bike. I have an Aprilia Futura for long distance.

I'm 61

Age 33

Bought my 74 Commando early last year, it is my first Norton and was near mint with 3,400 original miles on it. This past Summer I put nearly 4,000 miles on it in only 5 short NY riding season Months.

I'm 54 Had a honda 500/4 for a short while . then a 74 850 when I was 17 .
I've had three different commando's , all 850's . never wanted any thing else since .
Still my favourite way to feel good .

I am 59. I got my first Norton that wasn't in a basket 2 years ago. Got my 1st bike when I was 15, a 250 Ducati Monza followed by a 350 Ducati Scrambler. Have owned an assorted collection of Triumphs, BSAs, Hondas, and BMWs since then. Nothing makes me smile like the Norton. I wish I did not wait so long to get one.

I got started later than most or all of you. In High School in the mid to late 60s I rode my friends Hondas and a Triumph, probably never laid eyes on a Norton. Never owned a m.c. until 2009. Then I was visiting my daughter in Albuquerque and she said I should take a look at the old dusty m.c.that belonged to her landlord in the shed by her house{ It had set there for 17 years}.She said it would be a good retirement project. It was a 73 Commando. I bought it, brought it back to Indiana and with the help of a good local mechanic and the forum I've learned to do a lot of improvements to it myself. It looks great, runs great and I couldn't be happier. Learning to ride again after all those years came back very easily and naturally to me. I feel like a kid again when I'm on it and I can't believe the attention it gets from other riders. I envy all of you with the history you have with your Nortons, and I'm trying to make up for lost time. I'm 63 and hope to continue riding to 80+.

Happy New Year !
