How many EVs travel across the Nullarbor plains from South Aus to West Aus even on motorcycles you got to carry extra fuel as some places the distant between fuel stops is to great, even trains have to refuel 1/2 way across and they have to transport the fuel there first and gen power to be able to pump it in the middle of nowhere.
Then how many times can you drain the batteries before they need replacing at big cost, then what most motorcycle owners want to hear is a roar of the engine not just a winding noise.
So its a big no to any EV in my opinion if I want to do long cross country runs here, might be OK in the UK and Europe but here in Aus its just not practical and now we get idiots in power saying they going to set up charging stations ever 120km, bet that won't happen on the Nullarbor plains or anywhere else in outback Aus.
Then the fuel companies are putting in more charges at a big cost to them and to do a recharge is going to cost just as much as fuel and even with my Land Rover with long range fuel tanks I can fill it up completely in and away in 5 minutes, how long does it take to do a recharge.

Agreed Ash. However technology and time will likely resolve most issues I believe - and yes, I know that’s not a popular view with some. Truisms though - we humans are a pretty resourceful, adaptable/flexible lot when necessity requires it.

There will likely be charging stations on the dark side of the moon before they ever reach outback Australia 🤣 - AKA the ‘Great F#@k All’ (GFA). We don’t even have bitumin to half of it!!

You will likely be able to purchase ICE vehicles/plant for use in the GFA (and others like it) for decades beyond any planned cut off dates - through necessity. That’s were the flexibility comes in - a plan rarely survives first contact. They’ve started shifting implementation dates already through necessity.

By which time battery power will likely be moving aside for next gen technology - whatever that may be. Meanwhile, electrification will continue at pace in urban areas. There will be problems - some of them huge, possibly insurmountable. Some people will be disadvantaged whilst others will profit unfairly. That’s life I suppose.

The aim is emission reduction by volume, not total eradication - that ain’t really possible. Whether a believer in the need for this world changing endeavour or not, I think resisting it’s inevitability could get quite painful over time.

Lets see what the Norton EV looks like and then FE can re-open the poll. I don’t like Norton‘s chances of changing any minds here though😂! And that’s totally OK I think.

It's already here. Hydrogen fuel cells.

They're proving to be difficult to manufacture affordably right now, but many companies are pushing the envelope on this tech.
Including Toyota, Mercedes, Aerospace companies, NASA, and others.
Batteries are just a transitional tech for governments to use to force people off of ICE vehicles.
H2 fuels cells will be a game changer for EVs.
It will eliminate the need for ridiculously long charging cycles for vehicles, and range restrictions, battery performance reduction in cold and hot climates, not to mention chemical explosions when battery cells are damaged.
Refueling a H2 fuel cell car is similar to an ICE vehicle, pull in to a station, stick the hose in your car, a few minutes later you're done, and on you way again.

Manufacturing H2 is easy.
Green H2 - electrolysis of H2O, this is clean and climate-Nazis like it.
Blue H2 - Made by using high temps to split the molecules of fossil fuel to separate the hydrogen from the carbon atoms. This also produces carbon monoxide. This has to be captured to keep out of the environment. Better that burning fossil fuels, but this still makes climate-Nazis nervous.

Personally I wouldn't buy one
I won't buy any ev until I absolutely have to
I'm a petrol head through and through
I don't have a problem with others buying one as long as it doesn't affect me
I'd guess it'd be like comparing a real woman to a blow up doll
So they can keep their blow up dolls and their EV Norton's !
 
weeellll, this ev thing is a definitely pointed issue. The one unfortunate thing about it is the fact that the "electrics" have gone a long way to "hide" the real costs of "ev's". Any time I asked about the real cost of mining the lithium ion battery chemicals in third world countries I got "nada", "zero", "zilch" in return.
Just this little item is more than enough for me to say that it is not time yet for ev's.
 
I will probably own an EV car someday.
An EV motorcycle is just too sterile for me. Norton or not....
 
I've looked at the available E bikes over the last few years, but the limited range when ridden briskly stops me every time. I think I'd enjoy having one as an additional ride, not a replacement, but the ones with more range are too heavy and too expensive. I'd really be interested in something like the Zero, but with enough range for my typical Sunday morning ride, say 100 miles round trip, with speeds between 65 and 80 mph for a lot of the miles, and under $15,000. With the limitation in this poll that the Norton EV be on a par with the other current offferings, my answer has to be no.

I might buy a hybrid car, but I would never buy an electric motorcycle. Anyone who would buy an electric motorcycle is not a motorcyclist. There is a similarity between motorcycles and Tiger Moth aircraft. Why would anyone want to fly a Tiger Moth ? If you can understand that, you know why I would not buy an electric motorcycle.
One of my friends was with Kim Newcombe when he was killed while racing the Konig. That friend told me, he likes riding different motorcycles just to experience their differences.
When I want to commute, I drive a car. Motorcycles are for having fun.
Some people just do not get it.
 
I do not like cars, but I would dearly love to drive a Blower Bentley at high speed. There is a guy in Deniliquin who has a normally aspirated 1929 version. But the cops would probably book us, if we wound it up.
 
I'm not a fan of EV but I love working on the Zero. and they are fun to ride especially in sport mode. But.... wouldn't own one right now until the range improved then for getting back and forth to the shop....sure

I worked for a Honda dealership that was also a Zero dealer. I have some seat time of the top of the line Zero products. If I was rich, and I mean stupid 5 car garage rich with family money and no way to spend it all I would have an electric motorcycle. They are fun as hell to ride. But since I am poor and money is important to me I would rather have a rashed 250 sport bike with gas in the tank.
