For that use they do have quite an advantage, provided charging is adequate.

I purchased from this US outfit.
They show " out of stock" at the moment

That's the same LED BPF I bought from DynamoConversions (http://www.dynamoregulatorconversions.com/led-bulbs-especially-for-motorcycles-shop.php). Also carried in USA by Classic British Spares (https://www.classicbritishspares.com/products/british-pre-focus-led-headlight-bulbs).

My example did not exactly "light up the night". Bare in mind these are only lower powerd LED's and do not run external higher voltage power boxes using lots of cooling fins/fans/heatsinks etc like most automotive LED conversion units. They are better than stock incandescent BPF with the light being quite white and easily visible in full sun for being more visible to other road users. At night, dimly lit roads, do not expect modern vehicle lighting performance. I could see maybe 100 or so feet ahead on full beam. Spread was pretty descent side to side. This was with the 5 3/4" HiRider shell on my bike...your mileage may vary. My modern Bonneville has running a 3000 Lumens Philips LumiLED H4 bulb with an external power box and woven metallic ribbon heatsinks. It is extremely good at night.

I’ll be testing the Shorai batteries even more soon Glen as I’ll be using one with an electric leg on my incredibly tough to turn over 920 !
I had a ballistic battery on my 867 t150 with electric leg. It was fine until 3 weeks ago when for no reason it exploded and caught fire. I was very lucky to Rip it of the bike before I lost the bike.
Back to lead acid for me.
The commando is fitted with leds throughout, best thing I ever did.

I don't ride at night due to the proliferation of wild animules that run across the road in this area mainly possums coons deer stray dawgs and cats I got the LED to help save strain on A65 battery/charging systyem and give more eyecatching light to dumbass drivers we have to run lites on all the time in NC

I replaced every light on my 74' with Mr. Goffs LED offerings. I explained what I wanted and he set me up with a comprehensive package, all Pos. grnd.

I wonder if that was one of the reasons Ballistic went out of business?

Bluey, yes I fit Shorai batteries due to the huge weight saving. Even more pertinently, on a 961, that battery weight is carried so high. Actually I have Shorai batteries fitted to all of my bikes.

Not sure it makes much real world difference, but I sleep better at night knowing I’m not carrying around a lead weight on my bikes!

So Bluey... you think the stock indicators are massive and bright? Well they’re certainly massive, probably cost 10mph due to aerodynamic loss.

But they’re not so bright. Check out my indicators below (if you can find them) they’re almost invisible when off, but MUCH brighter than stock when on...

So... if one were mildly interested in said non visually existent but bright as the sun blazing directional indication devices... where would one find such amazing devices ???

Maybe, but I'd never use another Li battery, the risk outweighs the benefits

Amen to that, don't/haven't they caught fire on occasion....?? right under your petrol tank on the norty.... sounds like a bad idea.

Yes I was aware of the stories, but of course that happens to other people, it would never happen to me would it...........?

Well, I went to get the link to the web site for you, only to discover that the company that made and supplied them has ceased trading.

Forgive me for falsely raising your expectations there sir!

Happened to me as well, about 1200 miles from home.
No flames but lots of heat and a pool of molten material in the battery box.
Destroyed the Alton and the Podtronics too.
Bought an extension cord, lawn tractor battery and battery charger at Napa then stuffed them all in the top box. Ran some wires down to feed the bike through the brake light switch then ran dead loss all the way home.
The battery was recharged at night with the extension cord running from the motel bathroom to the bike via bathroom window!

It worked ok , the bike ran all day on the charged battery, lights off though.
Had that acrid smell of burnt electrical components all the way home.
And then a big bill for an all new charging system and battery.

Glen

Thanks;

Found and ordered these, as you say direct replacements. Did you fit the Shorai for weight reduction racing etc ?

LED Autolamps had a dealer in Melbourne so was cheaper shipping, the headlight comes in a blister pack of 2 so my Ducati Scrambler is going to get a touch of love also and rear brake light.

My Ducati has headlight on all time as I'm sure that's a legal requirement in Aus, the Nort needs turning on so I thought that a 570lm effective side/driving lamp up front would be of great benefit. Break light is also far brighter than the original. I find the OEM indicators on the 961 though are already MASSIVE and bright.

Ok LED's Arrived today, very happy with the results,

The T15 is 15mm in diameter so needed to ream out the hole slightly, not too much or the rubber grommet/holder wont "Hold" H4 Head light was a sinch, if you remove the socket locator and insert, care must be taken here and adheare to the instructions as the LED has to be inserted correctly or you'll get the thing 90' out but fairly easy to follow instructions.

Also learnt a thing here about blowing out a headlight with the air compressor. DONT !! it sprays tiny oil globs!! 20 mins later cleaning with solvent.

Would the H4 headlight fit into a Commando headlight shell with the Lucas switch and indicators mounted on top?

I would say yes... perhaps.

Meaning that I doubt those items per se would hinder fitment, but it depends how bad the rest of the rats nest wiring in there is!

If you look here, Goff sells a shallower light unit which helps save space in the shell:
http://www.norbsa02.freeuk.com/goffyWhyNotLEDs.htm

Also, the connector on the LED that Goff sells is remote, connected to the bulb by a few inches of wire, thus aiding fitting.

Thanks. It looks that the overall length is the same as an H4 with the connector.

Chaps,

Today I fitted the Paul Goff LED headlight bulb along with new shallower lens unit and LED pilot bulb, that I bought a little while back.

There are currently 4 bikes in t’ shed: ‘68 Bonnie, ‘74 Cdo, ‘16 BMW and ‘18 961...

All 4 bikes are parked up pointing at the wall. When I’d done I switched them all on and guess what, the old bikes now have the best headlamps, by a considerebale margin too.

I fitted Goff LED stop and tail bulbs as well, as many have said before, the tail is now as bright as the stop used to be!

Brighter lights with a fraction of the current draw, what’s not to like?!

Chuffed!

Last night I ended up riding after dark, which is unusual for me, no Buenos. I have a 1973, 750 Commando, (that I purchased new), it was redone 2006 or so. I would like to change out all bulbs with LEDs. Here is some other pertinent information and a couple of questions: I have a Lithium battery that is rated at 14Ah, 48 watt....Has LiFE P04 on it's label. It has a Carello headlight shell, so there is no pilot light hole with a 55/50W halogen bulb. In the interest of obtaining more light as well as saving wattage? I do have a couple of questions. 1) Will the wattage saved help the battery remain charged longer or should I just get a new Gell Cell with more output? Sometimes I can ride for well over 200 miles, no problems where other times it begins to show signs of discharge at 100 miles. 2) Will new LEDS work with the Carello headlamp, or toss it and replace with an LED compatible one?

Thanks in advance for all your help and assistance

Steve

PS: Kick start only, Positive ground. (aka earth ;)
