The brake is a strobe flash.

The issue with this one will be there is no white light being thrown down to the license plate as it is not meant for the motorbike housing. Red light may be sufficient however. Worht a try, but also check that the output light fills the whole lens area and not just making a bright center spot (this is why light boards are better).
 
I've noticed that there's been quite a bit of information discussed about batteries in more than one recent thread. For those who don't know about him, Robert Fleischer (known as Snowbum) is a VERY respected tech guy in the BMW community. The following is a bit lengthy but is the most thorough discussion of batteries that I've ever read. I hope the group finds it worth the read (the link on Lithium type battery testing alone is worth it). A bit of a spoiler but he still recommends lead/acid batteries:

Hi I do use the LED stop & tail bulb from Dynamo Regulator £10.95 it is very good indeed for stop/tail/licence plate. Nice robust item. I previously had another make which was not robust and fell to pieces. This one I can recommend. As well the Goff LED headlamp.

I also fitted the Dynamo Regulator rear lamp/stop LED board.... well pleased with the light it emits:)
