I believe it is generally accepted that Interstates usually had Veglia instruments and Roadsters (and probably Hi-Riders) had Smiths, and that is how they are listed in the 850 Mk3 parts book. However it seems the rule was not rigidly adhered to.
 
I had a 1973 850 Interstate Mk1 which was fitted with the InterPlod silencers and it had the same clocks.
 
My 11/73 build 74 Interstate has the original instruments which are identical to the ones on subject bike. My guess, they are original .

And my 11/73 Roadster has its originals which are the Smiths in the alloy cups (3001/09 and 3003/15). But all of this is of no concern to the former owner now - he's too busy counting his swag; the thing sold for $13099.99.
