Not a lot?

Who knows? Or do you actually mean: Are they original type?

duh mileage on odometer only indicates the interval the speedo drive and cable operated enough to turn it. No ID about the face label.

Is this bike on E-Bay? It looks familiar. I believe those are the gauges that were on 73-74's. They didn't have the squiggly line logo until '75....I think.

SMITHS SPEEDOMETERS

MPH speedos are normally marked; *1000 turns = 1 Mile*

SSM 3001/02 150 MPH (1968-70) Solid Green Spot

SSM-3001/02A 150 MPH (19??) Green Globe Logo (this could be a later replacement part?)

SSM 3001/09 150 MPH (1971-74) Green Globe

SSM 3001/10 240 KPH 600 turns (1972) [1971-74?] Green Globe

SSM 4003/00 150 MPH + Trip meter (1975-on) NVT

SSM 4003/01 240 KPH 600 turns + Trip NVT known to be used on Triumph 750 Bonneville/Tiger 75/76. Possibly also Commando 850 MkIII ?

SMITHS TACHOMETERS 4:1

RSM 3003/10 9k RPM (1968-69) No red zone

RSM 3003/10A (added to this list: 12/2009)

RSM 3003/12 9k RPM (Commando 'S' 1970) Solid Green Spot? 7,000 RPM Red zone

RSM 3003/15 9k RPM (1971-74) Green Globe

Thanks Les, I think that was a lot more info about speedos and tachos than many of us even knew existed.
Seems that speedo the subject of the original enquiry here is of the correct type for 1974.
So the mileage could well be original. Yes it is on ebay..
Cheers.

It appears to be an Interstate so 'Vaguelias' with a trip-meter would be correct if the brochure's to be believed. One of those clocks that's got to 8000 miles is a collector's item in itself !

sure don't look like my late 73 build, 74 models gauges. And I know mine are original as I got the bike from the original owner.

But does it have Smiths gauges?
The factory also fitted Smiths instruments (in pairs) as well as Veglias (check the numbers on your instruments against the list).

The speedo on the bike for sale clearly shows the word Norton, where the Original in L.A.B.s photo shows the
emblem partially covered by the black disc on the needle.
I'm not sure that a bit less angle on the camera would make enough difference.
Not suggesting anything.

It's just the camera angle.

Vague-liar is the correct spelling. The gauges in question say made in France? Veglia are Italian??? Smiths are English??? Graeme

They are the same as on my '74 roadster I bought in '75. So the bit about Veglias on Interstates and Smiths on Roadsters can't be right. Can it?
