what is the opinion of various Commando iol pressure gauges? I would get one from Old Britts but they won't be back for a week. I need one that comes with a mounting bracket. And accurate.

oil pressure gauge

oil pressure gauge
fitted to Lotus , and 63 mk 1 Cortina 2 door . :D

60's one. capilary tube , so you need no electrickery . Tho there are elictrical capillary less ones .
Sender at injun & ( Oil ) tank . Then youve got the OIL Temp & Pressure , as theyre interrelated .

If you can paint , put Whiskey where it says Water , or perhaps delete it .

Accuracy is a matter of great debate, do you want space shuttle grade accuracy? Accuracy. IMO, is quite immaterial, its the presence of oil pressure or not with a relative and consistent set of readings. I run an anti-wet sump valve, so a pressure gauge is mandatory.

I have a gauge on my '72, it reads right around 60 psi when cold and about 50 psi when warm, at 2200 or more RPM, it reads about 25 at hot idle, I have seen about 20 in traffic, at idle; the readings are steady and proportional, to a point, with RPM and engine temp. My gauge is mounted between the two handlebar mounts, so it is easy to see at a glance; I have learned what to expect from its behavior. If it changes its behavior, I'll see it and can then make an informed decision as to what I do next before losing the engine.

Every pressure gauge I've seen comes with a mounting bracket, most come with a plastic signal line, but the ones that come with one-way push-in tube locks should be suspect of low reliability. I have had 2 such fitments blow out so now I use A/N (Army/Navy) aircraft fittings and pressure line with zero issues.

Best to have a glycerin filled gauge, keeps the moisture out.
Have had no issues with push-in fittings with metal lock claws ring, even when fitted as a t-piece in the rocker feed cross line.

I use the same one as CanukNortonNut showed above, not becasue I was worried about it, more curious as to the condition of the oil pump etc. Once I had it installed i started looking for info on what I should expect to see, which was surprisingly hard to find (I wasn't on this forum yet). General consensus was 10 lbs/1000RPM hot, which is approximately where mine runs.

I ordered Madass' oil pressure switch but haven't obtained a gauge yet. Any suggestion as to which gauge will be suitable for use on a Norton Commando?
The discussion is not about fitting details but rather, finding a gauge which is resistant to vibration and moisture. I have looked at the Dakota Digital Mini Oil Pressure Gauge Round 2-1/16 Aluminum for Harley (0-150 psi). Our bikes do shake a bit more than a HD though. Has anyone tried it?

I had an Arlen Ness oil pressure gauge mounted directly to the cylinder head of my HD Roadking. 100,000 miles and it was still working last year when I sold the bike. It shook pretty hard.

Never thought about a commando shaking more than an HD are you sure about this? I've only ever ridden a couple of big twin Harley's and they shook a lot more than any commando I've ever ridden, cheers

I beleve your gauge tied directly into the HP oil circuit, as this is the only type of gauge advertised by that company. I am looking for an electric or electronic gauge.

Thanks for your comment Baz. I need to be more careful with my phrases. I am no longer sure about the frequency response of the two.
