Norton N15CS Hybrid restoration

Bruce, I wholesale through 6 national distributors. Baxter is typically a high-end retailer, but thier quality is arguably at the top of the chart. I have a reseller discount through them and have done maybe 10 - 15% of my sourcing through them. Good folks, for sure.

Bruce ,
I think you are talking about a Commando ?
a hybrid has a single row primary chain .
You can get a double row in there , but no tripple .
Also , there is much less clearance between inner case and chain , so no room for tab washers .
Normally , on a Commando ,the tab washers should be able to keep the 3 bolts in place .
I also think that ( from a certain date ) on a Commando these holes are helicoiled from the factory out .

Ludwig
Yes I have a 69S. Sorry I jump around so much on this forum I wasn't sure where I was and missed the "hybrid" heading.
Thanks, but I still would like your opinion on whether it is safe or stupid to run my bike with those 3 bolts loctited from the primary inner case into the crankcase. I don't really want to break open my engine at this point and also my skills are not nearly at your level or Grandpaul's. In fact I'm intimidated just reading Grandpaul's posts! Is there any way to helicoil those threaded holes and make sure the helicoil doesn't protrude into the crankcase after threading in the correct size bolts so I can use the tab washers. A firend in Colorado suggested safety wiring the heads of the bolts.
THX again.
Bruce

You'd have to affix the helicoils with the cases open, then epoxy them in and grind down the residue.

Personally I don't like Helicoils. If you are going to use a thread repair kit I'd suggest one of the solid ones.

Hi there, just finished to sort out that problem, and listening to Ludwid advise , I had add one stud in the center case (like the commando) then one 8mm stud at nine o'clock to replace the tiny screw, and two 8mm countersunk bolts in helicoiled holes in the two other places , seems better like that..........thanks Ludwig !!!

Hi there , is someone could tell me the lenght of the two rear wheel spacer......?? as i had built up this bike from scratch, I must now have them made , and seen somewhere they are different from Atlas and or cdo............many thanx.

FINALLY got in the Cad plated bits today, took over 2 hours to sort it all out...

If I had a pile of bits like that I'd be screwed- I wouldn't know where to start. As it is I try to take only one thing apart at a time so I can remember what parts went where. If I had that pile I'd have to spend the next two years on this forum asking questions and you guys would all hate me.
Buen suerte

That's why I take photos of all the piles of "before" stuff!

I have good parts illustrations, and I've done enough of these things to recognize what goes where.

It's all fun and games.

Sent the hubs out to Buchanan's to get new Excel shouldered aluminum rims laced up with stainless spokes.

Also sent out the magneto for total rebuild including re-magnetizing, etc.-

Installed & safety wired the cam followers and set the cylinders in place, nipped it all up-

Started on the inner primary; chased out all the screw threads and cleaned up all the old sealant & gasket mess. A bit of the staining is permanent, but no issue at all-

I've got everything to rebuild the suspension, so the chassis is next while the new custom aluminum engine mounts are getting done...

Just noticed the "ZED" license plate back there winking at me.

Zed was my late younger brother's nickname. I still own a few of his old bikes; I bought all of the bikes he ever owned from him except one that went to an employee of mine. I sure miss that guy, we were riding buddies.

Thanx to Don Hutchinson for the guaranteed color match and UPS for hauling it over-

I hope you have more pictures, like step by step.

Went ahead and installed the forks, even though they'll have to come loose to install the headlight ears when the painter is done.
