Hi all. I’m Andy from Derby and have just brought a 961. It’s been a painful few weeks so far as it’s parked in my garage waiting to be registered and I’m still waiting! My first attempt at registering was rejected as DVLA was asking me to go through NOVA, but it’s not imported (I wish they actually read the V55 they asked me to complete). Norton has been really helpful giving me supporting documents to get it registered (I’m impressed as I didn’t buy it from them) and fingers crossed I’ll get it sorted before the end of the month so I can ride it this year!

It’ll be worth the wait as I think I got it for an absolute steal. It was advertised on eBay with starting bids at £10,000. It’s a SF MKII purchased in 2017. Never been ran so basically a brand new bike. I offered £11,000 and seller said if I make it £11,250 it was mine. That price included taking it to Norton for a PDI and also delivered to my home. Seller had brought as an investment, but due to circumstances needed to sell. It cost them £17,750 so cannot believe my luck in getting it. From the picture below you’ll see it has the dual seat option. It also came with a Norton paddock stand and cover.

I was looking for a bike to replace my Hayabusa. I was finding the riding position uncomfortable until you’re going a good pace and the busy roads was making it frustration to ride as you’d keep getting held up. I was finding I preferred to take my HD out. So when I saw the Norton it seemed perfect. Great handling at sensible speeds and being the SF, a more comfortable riding position and something a bit special as well!

Reading the forum it seems I can expect a few teething problems, but after that I’ll have a reliable bike. Been close to the factory seems to be a benefit as well!

Looking forward to putting a few miles on it when it’s finally registered.

Once run in and any gremlins sorted (not guaranteed that you will have any to sort) you can get the decat pipes and remap done.... different bike!

I’ve been thinking about the exhaust. I’m not bothered about noise, but allowing it to breathe easier maybe worthwhile. The previous owner had the short exhaust and de-cat pipe, but not fitted. My personal preference is for the long pipes anyway. Would changing to the de-cat pipe and keep the standard exhausts make any differences or do you need the exhausts with the replacement long pipes as well?

I am sure the factory can adjust the map accordingly - same map with or without cat apparently but breathing easier DOES significantly address some running issues from new

Lucky you - you got the best colour scheme! Just don't let certain miscreants on the forum persuade you to fit short pipes.....

Who on earth would do such a thing Clive?

I’m sure Andy has enough good taste to do the right thing, and fit shorties, without any encouragement from the other members of good taste...

LOL

Don't worry. I prefer the long pipes and was pleased they weren't fitted :)

Do like the rectangular Halcyon bar end mirrors. They could be making an appearance in the spring.

I don't know, miscreants, a bit harsh no?
More like, well meaning, but misguided, and terribly inappropriate.:p

Maybe it's time to split the Forum with Short/Long owners going their separate ways. Having said that we might need a third for anyone who likes the Henry Colon Commando :)
