Does anyone know the dimensions of the hi rider handlebars....pictures I have seen look like they vary quite a bit...most seem to be about a foot...tnx

My first Commando was a 1971 yellow High Rider!
I didn't know any better, did not know about how much better a lower handlebar motorcycle handled.
Just thought it looked kind of cool, and it was the era of Easy Rider movie.
I got in trouble trying to control it on a Wisconsin highway curve while banked over, sold it, bought Combat

As far as dimensions go, you can check the links L.A.B provided. Also the following two. WASSEL https://www.rgmnorton.co.uk/buy/7-8...-1-2-high-hi-rider-type_2349.htm#!prettyPhoto . And EMGO bars https://choppahead.com/products/emgo-ape-handlebars-chrome-12
The dimensions vary, obviously not OEM. 12"-12.5" rise, Pull Back 7.5", Width varies, I know mine are <36", 32"? so I can drive it into the Livingroom. I went with the EMGO on my 74. $35? All you have to change is the brake hose and clutch cable, the wiring from the handlebar switches is long enough to get you back under the tank. The bike in my avatar has the EMGO bars installed.

Here's how my '74 850 bike came back in Jan....in all its hideousness:

Hi rider question

I have a Hi Rider question: In God's name why......?

dunno why anyone gets twisted by the high rider, other than the seat, which is an easy change if inclined,

bars, seat & tank (all easy swaps) = low cost easy peasy model alternative, when easy rider was yuuuuge

& i bet the original models out there that can be authenticated, will eventually fetch the biggest dough, commando wise, by far

Looking at it is like passing a bad auto accident...horrifying but you just have to look.
Id like one just to roll up to your mates house and shock all those present!
Agree that a dead stock one will be a collector's item.

Here is a proper 70’s chopper!

I remember seeing one of these fitted with an engine in about 1980
We were all at the tea hut at high beech Epping
This bloke came along on one with a full face crash helmet on!!
(None of us wore full face at that time)
We fell about laughing, it had lights and a number plate
So must have been road legal I suppose ?
Cheers

Takes time for some to catch on. The guys with the facial reconstruction surgery can tell you all about that.

Have you never been young and irisponsible Jim ?

I've been to many Norton rallies and shows yet have never ever seen one. So a real original would have to be rare yet somewhat undesirable , except to the show crowd.
