My fuel filler cap works fine, but needs new chrome and a new gasket. Can it be restored? If so, how does one get the spring/gasket thingy out and back in?
A new one can be had for $140, but I'd rather restore my old one if possible.
Chromers will not want to know as the metal its made from must be old Amals melted down, even if they do try they could over polish and the holes for the pin disappear (don't ask me how I know but I have a chrome paperweight ) .

I had one re-chromed, but the pin didn't fit any more, I had to ream it out and the plating also had to be removed around the hinge to make it fit right. It turned out OK, but not pristine. If I did it again I'd look for either a good used one or find a new replacement. Seems I've seen some for not gold plating prices, but that was years ago too.
