Bluto, I have a couple of those filter sockets but none fit very well between the filter and the tire
and I was hoping to not have to take the tire off. Once the can was mangled by using the slip jaw
pliers there's no going back...

olChris, I've seen that pic of the kawi with skies somewhere before, don't know how well that would
work. Several guys ride side hacks in Fairbanks and Anchorage in the winter and quite a few adv'ers
have studded up knobbies for winter riding. I don't mind taking a pause from riding and spending time
in the shop. But then a lot of us transition to this mode of play, my winter-time "Commando"

now to resume the stuck oil filter thread. I didn't think it was possible to over-tighten the filter
so bad. I'll have to contact the PO and ask how long it had been on there. Anyway, its off now,
new one is on and waiting for spring.

Those of us with sump located reed valve breathers should remember that these breathers bypass the filter when they pump unfiltered oil directly back to the oil tank. They do have screens though.

Not really a problem when you consider that the filter presumptively bypasses itself anyway, at least at cold start up and maybe in other high oil pressure modes too.

the general idea is these new fangled  detergent oils carry the contaminants in suspension . So if you DONT have a filter , Er . . .
But , as the oil continually goes through the thing it REMOVES the contaminants and debri  that would continually circulate , unless
they got stuck in the bearing shells or ring lands . :(

By & by , CLEAN the surfaces , Oil the Gaket ( O ring ) Spin on , tap firm - contact point . note Orientation . One Half turn on most filters is adequate ,
2/3 tuns sufficent . 3/4 turn excessive , but for rallying on gravle at the ton plus isnt a bad idea .

WIPEING the blankety thing with paper napkins well so sdhesion on the mitts is up , and a bit of insulation ( Glove or paper ) unscrewing it Or CRACKING it LOOSE
while hot as its normally easier    at least it DRAINS OFF better & quicker HOT . Unless your out past Nyngan at night & just removed it and notice theres THOUSANDS
of B-17 Mosquitos in a six foot sphere wherever you go , and you havnt organised the rest of the proceedure yet .Runnig around yelling & kicking & stomping eases the fustration . :(
