Dominator Exhaust Bracket

I am sorting out the exhaust on my 1970 Mercury (650 SS).
I am uncertain about the brackets that hold the silencers on the frame near the rear passenger pegs.
The left exhaust bracket is straight, and the right exhaust bracket is curved, presumably to provide clearance for the kickstarter.
Is that correct?

I am pretty sure the bracket on an Atlas would be the same.

Stephen , I have a 1968 650SS. Will take a photo of the exhaust and the passenger footpegs today and post it here.

Not a great photo, but the left and right bracket appear to have the same offset.

Thanks very much for the photos and information! This explains a lot.
On my bike the silencer and the passenger peg hang off two different anchor points. I guess at some point an additional set of holes were drilled in the tab welded to the frame. Crap, now if I put it back to stock, I have an ugly extra set of holes, one of which is damn near 7/16 in diameter.
What were they thinking????

On the left hand side of the Mercury, and a number of Dominators as well, there is large (7/16") hole in the bracket immediately in front of the pillion peg. The previous owner located the pillion peg through this hole and drilled another hole on the opposite side for the other pillion peg. Does anybody know what the point of the extra hole on the left side is?? Am I right in assuming it is stock? At some point I will weld up the extra hole on the right side, but am not sure about the hole on the left.

The brake switch bracket on my Atlas is mounted with a large (probably 7/16"...I am not where I can measure it) bolt.
If this is your mystery hole, then the question is...where/how is your brake switch mounted?

I have always wondered why Norton used such a large bolt for such a light duty purpose.

11.05.14 Just checked my Atlas.....There is a large hole (1/2") about 2 inches forward of the rear pillion. This is not where the brake switch bracket mounts as I conjectured above. Immediately behind this hole , mounted on a gusset welded to the swing-arm, is a tube-like fixture. I surmise the hole is to provide access to this fixture. The purpose of the fixture eludes me, but it might have to do with aligning the rear wheel. Anyone know what the fixture is for?

Update: 11.05.14. After study of a frame parts diagram, it appears the fixture is a threaded receptacle for mounting a lower chain cover/guard. The hole provides access to the screw. The frame diagram shows two large holes in the gusset where the pillion mounts...one for the chain cover screw access, and the other for the brake switch bracket. The hole is definitely stock. The fixture I have been referring to is just above the number 68 in the diagram, and this aligns with the hole just above the number 24 in the diagram.

You could be right, but however, very few Nortons came supplied with a bottom chain case as this was an Optional extra.

Agreed! I have never seen a Norton so equipped, but a friend had a BSA with a full oil bath chain case....he enjoyed long chain life and clean rear wheel! Made me envious.

My Mercury is similar. It has a hole in front of the footpeg/muffler mount and ahead of that is the brake light mounting hole. The right side has only the hole for muffler etc.
