Exhaust bracket needed

The right hand exhaust on my '73 850 is very loose and needs bracing.

I understand that this can be done by making a bracket to fit around the pipe and bolting it to the engine bolt on the bottom of the motor.

My problem is that I don't have a garage where I could make such a bracket.

Does anyone know if they are available anywhere at all?

Thanks

Frank

Rather than lashing it up, you probably need to look to see why it is loose into the cylinderhead and into where the muffler is clamped onto it. ?

If you just lash it up, its likely to just fall off somewhere down the road.
Or cause other problems. Probably sooner than later...

Examining the condition of the threads in the cylinder port where the exhaust nut retains the pipes is going to be big here.
If the nut is allowed to run loose, it can wear the threads, completely away if not seen to.

Hopethishelps.

Thanks Rohan,

That is exactly what I intend on doing, but after securing the pipe correctly I want to brace it.

Thanks

Is there a fabrication shop that could help you? Here's what I did, quite simple: engineering-compromises-leading-exhaust-threads-stripped-t14363.html

I know you're looking for plug-n-play, but I don't think it's available.

Thanks for the advice, I will talk to a local fabricator. They should be able to make one up for me.

You really need to look at the condition of your exhaust threads before planning any other bracing options.
If your threads are worn you will never have an effective outcome.
The best thing you can do if your threads need repairing is to have a bronze insert fitted.
He may not be on your side of the continent but Murray at Cyclecraft Engineering in Perth has done many bronze thread insert jobs. Just box it up and send it off and in a couple of weeks you will have a head with brand new threads which will give you years of trouble free service.
Here is a link to Murray's Facebook page. He doesn't have a webpage.
I have no financial interest in Cyclecraft Engineering but Murray is one of the good guys who's services I don't mind promoting when appropriate. If you scroll down the page you will see a batch of heads that have been repaired.
