Exhaust bracket finish

What was Nortons finish like on the original brackets as used on Commando roadsters? Mine are a dull chrome in not such good shape. Were they shiny chrome lie the mufflers and pipes from new?

They were bright chrome-like, but not as faultless or bright as the pipes. The best set I have were brought back to a decent shine but imperfections in the finish remain and the overall finish is not consistent. I used a softer Scotch Brite pad with Mother's aluminum polish to good effect and exposed the best sides for the right and left outermost plate.

It's possible they were originally cadmium-plated but as that is not permitted for such things in UK and Europe now cad. has generally been replaced by zinc.

The peashooter brackets I bought from AN (several years ago now) had a dull bluish-grey zinc plating, so dull that I soon replaced them with RGM stainless.
