Centre Stand

Hi Guys,

Has anyone got any good tips on how to assemble the centre stand and get that spring on, I've been struggling for hours,

Ron,
Best when the bike is on the side stand. Or on a lift and tied upright so it can't fall over. The stand, with the spring attached at both ends, has to be pulled against the spring tension till you can get one of the bolts in place. Second bolt then goes in a lot easier. You'll get it on...everyone else does.

Ron, some people "fill out" the spring by fitting coins in between each spring coil, which in effect lengthens the spring, and reduces the tension that you will have to apply. Coins are to be slightly bigger than the spring coil of course! Then when fitted pull out the coins.

When I fitted mine a couple of years ago, the cradle was not on the bike, and i was pulling the stand with spring, whilst my son was gently tapping in the bolts with spacers, when the holes line up. There were a couple of beads of sweat that day

There is a picture somewhere, possibly at OLD BRITTS, that actually shows this being done. I'll have a look and see if I can find it.

Reggie,
Are you truely a Yorkshire man? coins? coins not old used, abused saved for a rainy day washers?

Thanks, eventually got it done, tied a rope round it, with my son pulling on rope from back of bike and me with big hammer.

I'm embarassed (as a Yorkshireman) that you have managed to link these two facts together.

Cash, I was merely trying to give a more upmarket image to us Yorkshiremen, especially as this forum is is read worldwide. I am trying to dispell the stereotypical image of a Yorkshireman as being that of an unshaven chap, with a flat cap on, and whippet by his side, and who is extremely tight with his money.

Yes, of course you are correct, I would not personally use coins :x
