Friends, I need some help with my Norton P11. It's a '68, and you can see the pictures attached of the current side stand. Is this the "correct" side stand (I know that's a loaded term), and where can I find the spring for it? I've looked at various pictures, and it seems there are several different types with different springs. Thank you in advance for all your help; your expert knowledge is always appreciated.

I looked it up in a PDF parts list, 66-68 which I OCR'ed. It appears that your prop stand part number is 034070. In Andover speak this is 03.4070, others list as 03-4070. Stand foot looks a bit different but who knows...

The spring is listed as PN 16176. Andover has NM16176:

I double-check stuff with Walridge, which uses dash numbers, not dots as separators. In this case, it says to use 82-2610, substitute numbers are common. You can enter 82-2610 and it will show a very similar-looking spring that Andover shows, so that is probably the one.

Not the correct stand. Prop stand spring (for the correct stand) is available from AN. Go to the Featherbed slimline section, fiche 010.

isn't that the same one as the Andover one for $75 just pic from different angle?
The spring attachment location on the Eurotrash stand is not the same and I think the stand is longer. I don't think it is the same stand, but I've been wrong many times. Eurotrash carries a few parts that nobody else carries in the US that do work on the P11.

I am taking delivery shortly of a P11 that appears to be fairly stripped down. I am interested in adding a stand. I am leaning torward a side stand (pardon the pun). I am a fabricator and could fab one but could also look for one in local parts barns. I plan on off-road mostly but may want to tool around on it and need to be able to prop it up. What is the consensus regarding center vs side stands for off road? Steel v aluminum?

Their is no factory centerstand for the P11/G85 frame. The original side stand is the same one used on the slimline frame used on the Atlas. That said, it is sufficient to support the bike when parked, but is susceptible to cracking the mounting lug if deployed while kickstarting or standing on the pegs.

The frame tubing is rather thin wall and Reynolds 531 alloy, so MIG or stick welding is not recommended. It originally was gas welded (brazed) with a SifBronze rod.

If there is an aftermarket stand that works better than the original, I haven't seen it.

Thank you all for the help and feedback. I cashed in my retirement and purchased the kick stand from EuroTrash :). Summer is here and i hope to share pictures of the beast rolling on the back streets of Minnesota very soon. -thanks again, ride safe and enjoy the summer.

I hope that expensive thing works. If it doesn't give them hell about it. You can give me hell for suggesting looking there as well.

Cashing in your retirement is pretty drastic. I'd have recommended selling a kidney.
