Some background:

I reached out in a previous thread I started on custom cable kits seeking an improved/better/make me quit bitching about the synchronization of the twin Amals on my bike.

I had already installed a new cable setup with new junction "boxes" during restoration and was still getting frustrated in dealing with the carbs matching/synchronizing.
I could get them very close but it seemed tweaking was always a mandate. I pulled the head for an overhaul (that's one for another thread) and with the carbs off decided to try to fix the sync issue I was having.

Cliffa reached out in the "Cable Kit" thread and turned me on to an offering from Madass.

After reviewing some photos I decided to make the purchase and emailed Mr. Pendor.
He was very helpful with info and shipping was fast. I spaced out on the time difference from across the pond and emailed him at 3AM his time and he still responded within a few minutes.

The kit he has developed is very well thought out IMHO. The application and adjustments allow for very finite adjustments without any "dainty" issues, very solid

No, Mr. Pendor did not comp me or pay me to plug his piece. I found it to be a viable improvement and well made, thus sharing here.

I thought it might be of interest to some to see photos of the adapter plate mating up with the carbs. I have yet mount it on the engine and will follow up with more when I do.

Lineslinger,
Like you I have no affiliation to Don, but just know quality kit when I see it. - Hence the recommendation. Us Nortoneers are incredibly fortunate that we have so many great suppliers. They should be applauded and supported.

Cheers,

cliffa.

Thanks for those photos, it really shows the details of the adapter. It's on my short list of things to do to my Commando. I've already got his one piece rear axle and Lansdowne dampers and those are both fine products.

OK you sold me on it...... Shipping Monday I am told.:)

You won’t be sorry Time Warp. One tip, if you are still relying on chokes to start up, you may want to consider removing the locknuts from the choke cable adjusters to partly compensate for the increased height of the top caps.

Cheers,

cliffa.

I've always discarded the chokes as I've never needed them and always figured they were more trouble tan they are worth.
So maybe I didnt pay enough attention to the choke operation in the design.

Don,
It´s no big problem to shorten the cable outers ,and you made it clear in your description and instructions that it was designed for use with no chokes.
Happy camper this end !

I spent two winters in college on a bike, no car, I’m done riding in the 16 degree cold.
I never had any call for using the chokes and can always reinstall them if I ever ride in the cold again....which is not going to happen.

One more tip if you have the carbs off....

It is possible to remove the unused tickler casting on the inside of both carbs ( they are solid) . It makes it much easier to get a socket on the inner manifold nuts. I used a cold chisel ( well actually it was a wood chisel, but it was cold) taking off perhaps half a millimeter at a time until it was level with the unused idle adjuster casting.

Cheers,

cliffa.
