Petrol tank.

When commandos were new, was the underside of the fuel tank painted black or the same as the tank. Cheers

My candy apple roadster tank is original and the underside is the same colour, though obviously not in any way polished. My interstate tank is the same, but it's black, so that won't provide any evidence one way or the other.

Can’t see why they’d complicate matters unnecessarily in the paint shop.

What made you think they might be black ?

My original blue Interstate fibreglass tank was black on the bottom but they were made in two halves, upper and lower. I bought a replacement steel one which was the same colour all over.

The three original (never painted aftermarket) were the same colour top and bottom --- one red, one black, one silver

Mine is back on the underside, it just made me think, and I want to know what was correct. Cheers
