cNw electric start feedback after 6+ years

Did Nigel try that wheel bump in gear to get through compression before kick starting? I'm thinking it was a bit more convenient to buy the cNw ES.
No he didn’t !

It probably would work. It is something I do when starting race bikes on the rollers or bumping.

But it’s a lot of faff to get just one kick. And if it doesn’t start, you got all that faff again and for every kick. So for me, although I do think it would work, it is not a desirable solution.

100% on board with a lot of faff, whatever that is, but it sounds right. lol

Faff meaning..

verb
spend time on unnecessarily complicated and time-consuming actions.
"we can't faff around forever"
To be precise, the predicative noun phrase used by FE ("a lot of faff") is not in accordance with schoolbook English. "Faff" is defined as an intransitive verb only.
(Ref. Merriam Webster - I had to look it up!)

But I don't think we were in any doubt what he meant.

EDIT - it can be a noun according to Oxford dictionary (and after all that's where FE lives!)

I posted on here a few years ago after I fitted CNW electric start to my 74 mk2a - at that time I called it a Startle motor as it spins so rapidly the engine is clearly startled into life. I love it and enjoy showing less knowledgeable bikers just how easily an old Brit will start with the correct equipment.

The kit is cleverly designed and apparently is a robust design too. How is the started motor supported?

I knew what it meant more or less, but had never heard/read it anywhere before.

Thanks to all. Now I can go back to faffing around in my garage.

The inner primary is CNC machined from a single 35 pound block of aluminum. The starter motor is bolted to that. You can see how in post #29 this thread. The bolts go through gear cover (not in picture), inner primary and into the motor.

Matt, you could always offer framed copies of post #29 if your not going to stock the kit. That's nice STUFF

" Plus the wife might actually have something to say if I pulled into the driveway with a Triumph in the back of my El Camino. First thing out of her mouth would be, "Now what are you going sell so you have space for that?"

Bike in the back of the El Camino.......Problem already solved. Says the guy with the cycle lift under the trailer, with the hack set up on it.
