T140 progress and thoughts...

Madre de Dios! I had to spot the conductors on the rear unit before I had a clue. Fronts are invisible. Now fill us in because that is a very nice setup providing the civilians can see them.
 
They’re LED and really very bright. The light source is physically small though, but that’s more than compensated for by the brightness and the 360 degree light spread.

In the dark they are like Close Encounters...!

They‘re Motogadget, so very well made. Each indicator came with a long length of wire. Their relay is tiny and can go anywhere.

Down side? They’re Motogadget... so with the relay the whole kit was over €200.

I fitted the small rack too... it’s practically a Goldwing now...
 
200 quid? Oh dear...er...as in very dear.
But they look so much better than the Lucas standard issue. OK with Positive earth?
 
I was talking euros. The actual indicators are around £35 each.

Yer pays yer money...
 
I recently bought the same set for my ES2 (blasphemy i know).
Reassuring to read the positive review, and definitely the stealth setup i was hoping to achieve too.
 
If I was a normal person Id be putting these on my two bikes that have no indicators. But not, Ill replace the standard Lucas ones. Oh wait it won't be factory original then. Well, yes, but it would be prototypical for back in the day. Indicators were gone as soon
as we got the bike!
 
Yeah, removal of indicators, and mirrors, was normally the second thing I’d do to a motorcycle (after ‘improving’ the exhaust system)!

But it seems that a combination of age, busier roads, more distracted drivers, and less and less awareness of hand signals is eventually getting to me.

Recently I had a car driver staring at me as I approached a junction, I was turning left and signalling properly, he DID NOT know what to do. First he waited, then he went, then he stopped in the middle, then, literally as I started to turn, he went again. He clearly had no idea what my perfectly correct signal meant!
 
Anyway, back to the LEDs...

As posted in another thread, fitting LED indicators was incompatible with the warning light. This needs diodes to work, Other wise you end up with hazard lights (all 4 flashing together), in the end I went with a neat little assembly sold by Paul Goff. I also fitted LED warning light bulbs whilst I was at it, they are SO bright. So bright in fact that even I stand a small chance of noticing them !!
 
Hey there, I've only just found this thread and Thanks for posting it up here. I have a question though, while I was looking thru the photos in the beginning I noticed springs holding your side covers on (at least that's what it looks like to me) is that right? if so is it a modification or did they come that way from the factory?

Getting my first love original condition T140D mechanically sound. Thought 2 grand would do it, but am up to five and that doesn't include much cosmetically. Clutch and basket, new fork, 2 master cylinders, two MKII rebuilds, fluids, two caliper rebuilds, some cosmetic and polishing, painted dial cups, seat cover, all rubber parts, handlebars. Went the lipstick on a pig route minus paint to keep it honest. Too many memories to hide with paint. Lucas Rita ignition still working like a champ. I can't get my head around that one.

RITA rocks IMHO. Pretty sure I never had a single failure. Old tech, but top quality is how it was described to me once by Fred, an ign boffin.
 
Would that be Interspan Fred, & if so were you on the phone a while? He's the only bloke to keep me on the phone longer than Tony Haywood!!

It was indeed Interspan Fred! I was in his workshop with him actually, great guy, very interesting, but most of it way over my head !
 
Fred is modifying my Royal Enfield ignition at the moment, & as you say a lovely & interesting bloke, but tends to go off on a tangent during a phone conversation. Not wishing to be impolite I struggle to end the call. One hour & four minutes is the longest of the three calls to date.

I was doing a lot with Fred when he had domestic problems. He used to phone me to discuss them!
Glad to hear he is still going.

My Mechanic.....calls his shop Limey Lucas.....love that.....is SO enthusiastic. Works quickly, efficiently and spot on. He invites me in to show me all the work, all the other old Brit Iron he's working on, the shop expansion. He is a gem of a find. But of course, we all know enthusiasm gets expensive. " I'm gonna do this and that and this and that....." so fast you just nod your head "uh....ok" chaching
