I got mine off ebay from china cheap as chips and bright.

does any one make led bulbs for a MK3 speedo and tach?
I found some bulb holders to fit my MKIII from Summit Racing but the led's were not bright enough, Would appreciate part #'s and suppliers contact info for really bright led's to fit stock bulb holders.

I found some good ones at Classic Car LEDs. 56 lumen
Bright white:

"Warm" white:

These are for positive earth; they come in negative also.
Shallow enough to fit in the cases on my 74. Don't know if the MK3 is different.

Here is an ebay listing:

Thanks Rick but they won't fit the '75. We have a flat bladed bulb connector not the bayonet. The info on the bulb color and lumens will be helpful though.

Dave & Baz, Could you give some specifics regarding these bulbs? Perhaps check your receipt regarding part number and the vendors eBay name?
The ones I have are smd 501 t10 w5w these are wedge type fitting, ebay seller viigour ,I expect there may be brighter ones out there but I find the crisp white light good enough for me

Pete, So these bulbs are for Tach & Speedo illumination? Is that correct? Or are these for the 4 indicator lamps in the console? Thank you for the reply. OK, I verified that these are 194 style bulbs, so they are for the Veglia instruments. I love the brightness of those indicator bulbs. So, do you have a source and part number for them as well???:)

Pete & listers,
Pete installed red bulbs because they help to preserve your night vision. However, that was current technology in WWII. The US Air Force did a detailed study some years ago. They found that green or bluish green worked better in this regard. See

Flying aircraft at night, you are basically operating in the pitch black. Since night time motorcycle riding may or may not be taking place in a dark back ground [country versus city riding] the choice of red or green lighting will be a personal one. These bulbs are cheap enough that you can try both, then use whichever you prefer.

Pete, since like most LEDs these are polorized, and have a wedge base, I take it that you simply have to be aware of the terminal polarity of the socket base and install them correctly? Is that the case?

If they don't work you turn them through 180 degrees , cheers

Chaztuna,

Picture of red package has all the info you need Superbrights is the vendor.

To answer your second question, yes since they are wedge bulbs they can be flipped in the holder. If they don’t work one way just reverse them.
