I wasn't too keen on the way the new upper block relies on the inner plactic shoulders to hold it in place and apparently they have been known to loosen as there is no compression limiter on them. So I had a little think and came up with this alternative way to fix it. It's an aluminium plate the same shape as the rear of the block with two M3 screws to hold it to the nylon block and longer bolts obviously ( I would have preferred to use studs, but I I used what I had on hand). I had to remove a bit of material from one of the inner casting webs on the outer cover as it clashed with the upper bolt, but probably wouldn't have needed to if I had used thinner steel for the plate and different bolts. It's all buttoned up now and I took it out for a test ride. All good, but I was very alarmed as I waited for the fresh oil to circulate in the dim garage. The right hand downpipe started to glow red as it was ticking over!! I seemed to remember this is not unheard of, and found this thread about it, which is quite relieving as I thought I'd screwed up the cam timing
Hi looking for any help or thoughts. I have just done my monthly bike start as it is winter and bike is off the road. Didn’t sound to good but started ok but right hand side exhaust pipe where it comes out of the barrel started to GLOW red only after a few mins. Engine seemed to be ticking over...
