One engine build finished... So thoughts move to the next...

Suggestions please, as to what I should do with this:

What should I do with this...?

I think that you should uncomplicated your life & sell it....I'll give you a fiver for it, AND pay for postage

Thank you for the generous offer to simplify my life by relieving me of this clutter guys... But I think I'll hang on to it for a while.

What I really meant was how should I use it...

I could put it in my 850 as an extra tweak, I could use the excuse to go to 920 with it, decision, decisions...

I think a whole new project is in order, my projects often start with one part.

nice crank, nice cases, nice rods, I think we know where the cylinders and head should come from.

Indeed Mike, those billet cases are stunning, but I think I'd be happy with Maney cases at less than half the price.

So, one plan is indeed to use Maney cases and 81mm bore alloy barrels and go the 920 route.

The other would be to fit the crank, and mildly hotter cam, into my 850.

At least I've got the summer to decide!

Well, in all honesty I would say that if your 850 is running well after everything that you have done to it, leave it together and go the maney cases 920 route. Left Coast Ken has mentioned the difficulties he's had with 920 motors staying together in the past. I have no actual experience with them myself, but just my 2 cents on the issue.

Go retro and build a 750 on your Maney cases with sleeved down 850 barrels and JS rods and pistons. low stress engine should last forever

Eddie,

The best thing to do with the Maney crank, is to put it in your engine before the original one breaks. Take it from someone who has had two break on him. My 650ss thirty odd years ago & the 850 in more recent memory. If you give your bike a lot of stick, then it's only a matter of time.

I hear you Martyn, and that was my intention. I had the engine down so far that it really wouldn't have been that much more work to swap the crank. But, I set out to do a 'back to back' comparison of the head job, so I left the bottom end as was.

Due to work commitments clashing with the dates, I won't be taking this on the track at all this year, so I'm hopeful the crank will last until winter (famous last words)!

I just have to decide what to do then. BTW, I PM'd you with a couple of questions about cams etc in yours...
