Dang! Torontonian is having a ball up there. I did the ferry from Tobermory to the Manitoulin a long time ago on my way to Winnipeg. It was beautiful then, an sounds like it's the same beauty today. Be safe out there brother.

Yesterday I noticed that I lost my inspection cover over my clutch basket. I must have not tightened it up properly when I was troubleshooting my clutch issue on the sidewalk a few Sundays back when I broke down. Good thing I have a spare set here that I polished up and used.

Oh, and for anyone of you who are looking to do something with that original Norton security lock hole in the triple tree, this might be an idea. It's safer for my phone than my other contraption. Bought it on Amazon for $30.

Suggestions for installing a charging system for the phone????/
 
Actually, I've never had to charge my phone when it's on the bike. I actually don't use my phone when I'm riding. I just have it there in case I see a text from my wife to get my behind home....

Otherwise, I use it for GPS navigation sometimes, and use it to see the maps in front of me and instructions in my helmet speakers. Other than that, no use for the phone.

For those of you riding long distances and needing to charge, you can certainly run a usb charger from the battery to your bars and attach the cable to your phone. I have one of these laying around here someplace that I bought a while back, but haven't installed.

Don’t think I’d want that on my bars thank you. There are plenty of discrete options on Amazon or eBay. I have a switchable unit with a LED wired directly to and velcrod on my battery with the cable piggybacked up the throttle cable to the QuadLock mount, works a treat.
 
When I was thinking about a USB power socket for an old car, I was advised to wire into a circuit that's only live with ignition on. I was warned many aftermarket sockets 'leak' and slowly discharge a battery. I didn't investigate further, so don't know if it's true, nor whether it's a material drain or not. The modern bikes I've had with USB power sockets have all been on a switched live, so maybe there's something in it?
 
Drove the Mk 111 following Pierre on his 850 Mk 11 to a nearby fishing hole on Keagawong lake . Rough road but cute wood bridge , caught 10 perch and many rock bass . Cleaned and fried up to feed his family and friends .
Tomorrow goodbyes to dark sky reserve and Pow Wow . Rear tire getting thinner .

Which is why I chose a switched version but have on many occasions forgotten to switch it off with no issue. Afaik USB charger will only drain if it’s charging anyway and I never leave my phone on obviously.

Thank you for your time with a reply. I have a battery pack which is the size of a I-phone and dedicated to charging phones that I can carry if needed....I like the KISS
philosophy as far as electrical stuff on my Norton.....

Checked in at Manitoulin dark sky preserve , milky way Bunkie in a field .
No lights allowed after dark . 3 nights .
Left Pierre's farm , he had new problems with the Norton . Burning lots of smoke from the timing side . Points gave him kickbacks too . Owww .
 
Cleaned my carb. Been getting some deceleration popping and stalling at idle, even after new fuel. Was running perfectly 6 weeks ago. Hopefully that sorts it. But I'm also not convinced it's charging my new battery. Too much noise on my digital ammeter. A run later should check things out. Back to ever increasing (test) circles.
 
Went for a spin in mid Wales, set off at 7:15 breakfast in Crossgates at 930 and headed home via Clun, Bishops Castle, Shrewsbury and Market Drayton 190 miles later got home around midday.

The indicator relay had packed and I’d replaced if but the indicators were strobe like so I called in at a local parts shop specialising in Minis (original type) bought another relay and we now have a nice steady flash.

No popping and stalling. I went back to the Roadster set up earlier in the year. I think I must have failed to clean out every last bit of the Evaporust, when I did the tank a few months ago, before installing.

He does not have trust in his inherited Mk 111 complex primary drive . Pierre's Mk 11 was smoking bad on right side and he was trying to deal with kickbacks on the points , fiddling and pulled the AAU to reset it all .
He has a Ducati insured and running well so all is not lost .
I told him to pull the head .
Packed up and went to a great Pow Wow . Zajin . Migwich .

My bike is running perfect . Pierre has now called his " Old Smokey " . We drove to wiikmemkoong Pow Wow for final afternoon dances and cash awards . Met the seller of both of his Nortons at Manatouwanning pier dock .

He ( fat nice dock guy on red old sailboat Manatouwanning ) has a 1937 Indian Chief , an Ariel square 4 , a BSA Lightning needing work . Many canoes too . Everyone has a boat or more up here .
 
I just reinstalled the inner primary chaincase due to replacing the crankcase seal, inner sealing discs and a few other parts. It was useful to take it all apart and check everything, as I found a few things that needed replacing and adjustment.
 
I'm lovely Parry sound . Hard to find a motel here that is not full . Prime summer . Next stop back to home will be Orillia . Same issue with high prices if lucky to find a room . We are packing camping gear on the Norton but my wife says no more camping . Bike running great , great foods , saw a Bluegrass folk show this evening . Norton timing gasket weeping a tad after 2000 kms. of northern Ontario and of course the rear Avon is wearing out . Only 250 Kms. more south To Toronto . 30 C . Out .

In Muskoka headed to Orillia . Uber rich playground . Lots of oncoming Lane waves from other bikers . Lots of conversations about the bike when stopped to fish , drink coffees and booze at patios overlooking white pines and shield rocks outcrops .

Lubed the Iwis chain with wiping synthetic gear oil from my tiny travel bottle . Motor oil check shows no oil usage after 2000 kms. Unbelievable . Why did I pack a half litre of 20 50 Castrol Classic ?

Home stretch tomorrow after perch fishing the narrows L . Simcoe .
Ass hurts , doing stretches .

I took my 90s aftermarket Interstate seat to an upholsterer who does both marine and vintage cars. He took the cover off, cut half the foam out and sculpted in some new firm/supportive foam on the top half and put the cover back on. No more ass-ache.
